I've been experimenting with rag curls recently. My hair is naturally straight, so it's very fun to have curls and movement to it without all the typical damage (and work!) from curling irons. I've been looking at a number of tutorial for guidance in this, like this one by Hannah (which Erin of Calivintage told me about!). The bits of rag make me look so comical at night, but I kinda enjoy how silly they are.
The curls also made me feel a bit 1960s and inspired some retro styling. My blue week continues with this sailor dress I've worn lots in the summer, but never layered before. I love how the navy dress looks with warm peachy and golden hues. It's also striking how retro this look is considering I'm not wearing any vintage...

@Gilbert/Ganda, thanks but I'm not wearing any vintage today! The dress is named the "Calivintage" dress, but it's by Dear Creatures.
ReplyDeleteThat's just how my hair looks when it's super long and I let it air dry! I'll trade you...
ReplyDeleteLove your hair in curls. They always look cute, especially with red hair.
ReplyDeleteThose shoes are beautiful.
I've always had really good luck getting bounce in my hair by using pin curls. But I love the wavy look too!
ReplyDeleteI love the way your hair looks curly, I'm definitely going to try rag curling mine now! Do your curls stay in easily? One of my friends rag curled my hair once for a ball and it looked lovely at first but the curls just fell out of my hair after a few hours =(

My hair is naturally straight too, and until I found "soft spikes" I couldn't keep a curl if my life depended on it. Have you heard of them? I think that they're traditionally used for Irish dancers, but if you only put in 10-14 of them loosely, add a light layer of good hairspray and sleep in them, the curls last alllll day. I'm seriously in love!
ReplyDeletelove it!

love the dress...and the house where you are is amazing!
ReplyDeleteOh! That dress looks lovely with the blouse under it!
ReplyDeleteAnd your hair is beautiful. I love the way rag curls look, but I can never manage to have them turn out when I do them on myself, so I guess it's a good thing I have naturally curly hair! :D

Your curls look so pretty! Did you find the rags uncomfortable to sleep on though?
ReplyDeleteYou look great! I haven't tried rag curls since elementary when I wore them all the time :) Hopefully my hair isn't too thick!
ReplyDeleteI love love that dress, and love the new locations for photos.
Also I loved your write up on The Red Shoes. That has been one of my favorite movies since I was little. It's breathtaking. Have you seen the trailer for the Black Swan? It seems like it's going to be kinda the same set up, with the ballet story intermixing with the ballerina's life.
Anywho, love it!

Your hair looks raelly nice like that! I wish I had the patience to do that to my hair... I usually just end up having it in a messy bun on my head, and when i let it out it's slightly volume-y and curly. :)
ReplyDeleteOh what a gorgeous setting! I love the vintage vibe! Your hair looks awesome. I am a bit biased towards curly hair (since mine is a bit uncontrollable at times) but it really is cool to see you do something different with it.

ReplyDeleteRag curls for the win! Pin curls work really well too but are a little harsher to sleep on thanks to all the sharp pins hahaha. It looks lovely!
