Of Monsters and Me

I've been on a monsters kick lately. They're really fun to draw and they exercise my doodling muscles in something other than my usual patterns. Ideally I think I'd like to open a small Etsy shop one day; selling illustrations and collages and the like. But I want a bit more practice in my style before then, so that's where you come in: do you have any ideas for an original monster? If so, leave a description of some strange beast in the comments and hopefully I'll be able to doodle it. (I'll be happy to e-mail anyone a picture of their monster if I manage to capture the description with some measure of grace.) So please, let me know what sort of cyclops mer-monster you can think of.

  1. Hi Rebecca,
I think about a mermaid-kind of creature, with a lot of messy hair and a magnificent fishtail.
I hope you would like to doodle a monster of this kind! I'd be very proud to have a drawing by you. I absolutely love your doodlings, and more generally your blog. Endless source of inspiration for me.

  2. Hi Rebecca,
Remember the little teacup from beauty and the beast? what if it was a zombie? still cute, but monstrous. yeah!

  3. I'm not sure why, but I'm obsessed with bucks right now. I'd love to see a deer type creature with some seriously patterned antlers. Maybe a trendy deer with a sweater and some coffee, or alternatively a little fawn with a nice dress. Anthropomorphism, yay!

  4. Ooh, I'm thinking something with TUSKS (!) and ruffled hair. Oh, and cats eye glasses and a beauty mark. Kind of the babe of the tusked-monster world ; )

  6. I love your doodles, I'd love to see a gloopy kind of monster. Or I seem to be a bit obsessed with zombies at the moment, a zombie mermaid would be cool.

  9. Hi Rebecca!

I follow and love your blog for several years. You're an inspiration to me.

I thought of several imaginary monsters. One would be a fish with a beard and claws instead of fins. Another might be a bird with a human body. :)

  10. Monsters in the library, please.

(After these single panel creations, I would love to see a story -- a book or short film).

  11. Hi, Rebecca. Love your monsters. I was fumbling through your blog in search for the previous monster you did. Was inspired and was planning to doodle them on my classroom wall. It's a very long wall... hopefully be digging more monsters from you. :)

  12. Ooooh what a cute idea :) I was thinking of a bitchfaced kitten with wings that look like book pages (all written and stuff) and three tails <3
P.s. my email is giulia.lifeisaromanticpoem@gmail.com ...maybe I'm a little late, but it would be amazing to receive my own doodled monster!
