Blog Birthday: 8 Years Strong
As of today I have been blogging for 8 years! I have a hard time remembering exactly why I sat down and pinned that first post back in 2007 and the girl I was back then. There's been a lot of growth, several moves, and various hair colors in the intervening years and the blog has served as a diary recording many of those events. I'm grateful to have this journal to look back on and can only imagine how amusing it will be to look at eight years from today--certain old posts already make me cringe!
But I don't like to use my blog's birthday as a day to get very nostalgic and wax on about the past. Instead every year I try to think of some goals for the coming year and celebrate the occasion with a video. I've a lot of ideas for improving my blog and some new creative projects I'm really excited about this fall. For this year's special video Thomas and I decided to do a little fairytale themed shoot in some rainy woods. The video is inspired by the legend of "The Red String of Fate." I hope you enjoy it and thank you for reading my blog for all these years!

Outfit: At The Dock's End
After months upon months of living out of suitcases and boxes, moving out of one house into another temporary home, and finally the big move across the pond, it is so nice to have all of my clothing in one place.

Style Crush: Alex
One of the things I really enjoy about blogging is getting to "know" other fashion-loving ladies that I wouldn't have met through other means. One of these ladies for me is Alex of Larkspur Vintage. I'm a big fan of her blog and style and feel that if we hung out in real life instead of the occasional conversation online, we'd be kindred spirits of a sort. As her blog name might imply she wears a lot of a vintage and brings a retro touch to her modern clothes as well. Visiting her site makes me want to cut my bangs again and wear more vintage. For more of Alex visit her blog.

Outfit: French Fries
Sometimes British-English doesn't feel like English at all when Thomas says something and I just stare at him in confusion, but I'm steadily learning to call fries, chips and chips, crisps.

Lookbook: Hannah Kristina Metz
One of my favorite bloggers and ultimate style crush, Hannah Kristina Metz, recently debuted her first collection. She's already been a lady of many "hats" as the saying goes--running a vintage shop and designing retro lingerie, but she's really outdone herself with her latest project. The nine piece collection toes the line between modern art and wearable fashion with large hand-embroidered tears and eyes. It's inspired by her favorite literary star-crossed lovers--Tristan and Iseult. It's a delightful collection and I can't wait to see what she's whipped up for fall!

Stylish Spaces: A Bright & Tassel-filled Loft
Are you familiar with Studio Mucci? It's a rainbow tassel and unicorn ballon filled shop run by Amina and Salvatore Mucci. With such a playful shop, it's no surprise that their loft apartment is as eclectic, bright, and fun as their work. The rainbow-striped kitchen and coffee table are the result of washi tape! Time-consuming, but a perfect solution for renters who want to bring a lot of color into their home. All the bright colors and playful touches (four pink elephants?!) make this one of the happiest homes I've ever seen. via

Beauty: Easy Twisted Bun
So my hair-styling skills are still a bit juvenile; meaning that when I learn a new hair-trick I sort of stick with it for awhile before learning something new. Rope braids have been my new summer trick and I'm exploring nearly every possible incarnation that works around the same basic style. For this it's quite simple: two rope braids and then twisting them into a bun--it looks quite fancy in the end but it very simple and easy to achieve.
How To:
-divide your hair into two parts; it's best to keep them tight together
-make each section into rope/twist braids (how to here)
-pin the right braid up and around
-twist and pin the bottom braid in a circular motion

Style Crush: Kiki Sunshine
My latest blog obsession is Kiki Sunshine. Her blog, as the name might imply, feels like a beam of sunshine across your face on a grey day. Her love of fashion is immediately evident in her envious wardrobe and experimental styles. It's hard to pin her personal style down as she switches between retro looks with to tomboyish ensembles and from minimlism to maximalist enormous flower crowns and heavily beaded jackets. I'm always excited to see what she will wear next and her hair is tempting me to chop mine off again. Find more of Kiki on her blog.

Lookbook: Nice Things
Nice Things by Paloma S. has the prettiest color combinations in their spring and summer collection. Classic prints and shapes feel so fresh when worn in citron and cream with pink polka dots and blue shoes. The fun photography in each of their lookbooks with quirky modeling and interesting angles also helps elevate the clothing. Photographed this way the pieces almost feel fit for a Wes Anderson film.
