A Winter Story

I've gotten pretty good at letting less-than-positive comments roll off my back. I mean, I don't have the thickest skin in the world but I probably would have quit within the first year of blogging if I couldn't take a bit of critique. Most of the time the comments that affect me aren't even the mean ones, but just ones that hit a pet peeve or seem misplaced or the very personal and kind ones. I mean sometimes people write a comment so lovely I don't even know how to respond because it was too sweet and generous and any response would feel flat. The other day I received a comment that hit a pet peeve rather than being the lovely sort. The person said something along the lines of, "that's cute, but everyone already has that scarf." And I was felt like, "oh, we're still playing that game?" That game that if it's popular, it's bad. That game that if girls are interested in the same things, like Audrey Hepburn or macarons, that it's SO CLICHE. Like, have you seen Audrey Hepburn or eaten a macaron? They're only popular because they're so amazing! I feel the same way about my scarves; I've had this one from Modcloth for a couple of years now and I don't care how many people get it--it's amazing. In fact, it's something I would recommend to my friends to get. I mean blanket scarves can be "out" in fashion, but you can try to pry them from my cold, frost-bit fingers! I love a scarf that envelops me and I can use as a blanket when I'm not walking about. Wear it while out, come home and drape it over my legs when sitting on the sofa! It's one of my favorite winter accessories and I love all the winter accessories--knit hat and gloves that make my hands look like a giant's. You can try to make me feel uncool for having something that *gasp!* another woman owns, but it's not going to work.  aclotheshorse walking in the snow aclotheshorse walking in the snow
