Evening in Frigiliana

One of our last stops on our whirlwind trip to Andalusia was the picturesque village of Frigiliana. Ironically Thomas had researched this quaint white-washed village previously when planning our holiday to Spain last spring. We ended up exploring a different region then, so it was nice to have a chance to wander down the streets of Frigiliana and explore the charm we missed out on previously. One of the most striking things you notice when you arrive in this region of Spain is that it feels as if winter never arrived or left months ago--bougainvillea is blooming, orange trees are bearing fruit, the sun is golden and warm. It was such a nice escape from the grey days we've been experiencing lately and a nice preview of what spring will look like when it finally reaches us. Of course beyond the colorful flowers you find yourself noticing the decoratively patterned cobble streets, meticulous white houses, and variety of blue doors mimicking the bright skies above. Perched up high the winding streets also provide you with beautiful views to look down on the rest of the village and valley below. Of all the places we explore on our trip to Andalusia, Frigiliana was the place that I wished I could linger at the most. I could picture a lazy holiday here wandering through the scenic streets and exploring the nearby Sierra de Tejada Almijara park for hikes.frigiliana-11 frigiliana-35-side
