Your Eyes Could Steal A Sailor From The Sea

I was born for a wandering life...or into a wandering lifestyle I suppose. Either way, a childhood of moving every three years has left me with a constant desire for new frontiers. Often I have reflected that it would be wonderful to be a gypsy and travel in a brightly decorated wagon, but lately a life on the sea sounds quite appealing. No harbor would be my home, but my life and my love could be the sea...
Whatever comes (and it will likely not involve ships or wagons), for the moment I am enjoying the nearby rocky shore of Puget Sound. It is a short drive to reach and I might even end up kayaking out to one of the islands some day... beach, puget sound, yellow dress, daily outfit, the clothes horsebeach, puget sound, yellow dress, daily outfit, the clothes horsebeach, puget sound, yellow dress, daily outfit, the clothes horsebeach, puget sound, yellow dress, daily outfit, the clothes horsebeach, puget sound, yellow dress, daily outfit, the clothes horsebeach, puget sound, yellow dress, daily outfit, the clothes horsebeach, puget sound, yellow dress, daily outfit, the clothes horsebeach, puget sound, yellow dress, daily outfit, the clothes horsebeach, puget sound, yellow dress, daily outfit, the clothes horsebeach, puget sound, yellow dress, daily outfit, the clothes horse

  1. Just realized that there aren't any flowers in the background, so it's almost like your pretty yellow dress is!

  2. I thought it would be the same for me, see, because in my childhood we moved every two years, but then stopped moving. Recently, like maybe last year, I kept on saying I wanted to travel, but very recently I discovered that I actually didn't like travelling.

I guess it's not for me...

  3. a wandering lifestyle sounds absolutely amazing. I've lived in the same town my whole life, and I'm so excited to have the chance to travel and see more parts of the world.

your dress is so beautiul - I love all the embellishment on top!

  4. I love your ideas.. It sounds indeed well to travel like a gypsy. Maybe like those medieval people who traveled and played songs on lutes and all :) love the dress too ;)

  14. Oh! Lovely dress! Yellow is such a nice, summery color! Unfortunately I can't wear it. It looks horrible with my skin tone. :(

And yes, you really should see Penelope. It's a really good movie, even aside from the style in it. :D

  20. Why stay in one place when you can discover somewhere new? I always love your photos, your yellow dress is so nice.

    Where were these photos taken?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I normally feel the itch to travel somewhere every few months, but it seems like after I lived out of a bag for a month, with no fixed place to call mine, the itch went away (at least for now...)
Every time I think about gypsies, I'm reminded of Zac Condon, of the band Beirut. He was an A student, but when he was 16 he realized he would not learn anything useful in school so he quit and spent some time living with gypsies in Eastern Europe. I guess he's just one of those people!

  22. As always I love your photos. I've moved upwards of 10 times in my life and I sort of start feeling antsy when I've been living or even just staying in one place without some sort of adventuring and moving about.

Oh, also, I saw a labbit (in a store) the other day and thought of your blog! :)

  23. Wanting to be right there... beautiful!

Love that you went back to my African Resort post and found your answer waiting for you.

  25. I'm quite the opposite. Whenever I go traveling, I find myself longing for home after a few days.
    Lovely yellow dress.

  26. This post makes me think of John Masefield's poem, "Sea--Fever."

"I must down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
    To the gull's way and the whale's way where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over."

  30. Gorgeous photos! I also moved several times as a child, and the desire for new surroundings stuck with me as well. I guess I could stay in one place for a long time, but there's so much to see!!

  34. The detailing on the front of your dress is beautiful.

If you're really interested in spending time at sea, you should look into Seamesters. My partner in crime, Joyce, just left for the summer session a few days ago. She'll be chronicling her travels at http://unravelmytravels.blogspot.com/

Also, thank you so much for your help with my article. It went great.

  37. Gorgeous gorgeous pictures. You look amazing as always. A life on the sea wouldn't be bad. I always wanted to go to high school on the tall ships..thought it would be an interesting adventure. Hope you are having a great summer.

  38. I love the photo of the mussel shells. I hope to do a lot of kayaking this summer. It's so invigorating and relaxing at the same time.

  39. I too spent most of my childhood days from city to city, now I feel I can't stay put in one place for too long.
Adore the dress, is it vintage? And the shoes are a perfect match!

  44. gorgeous dress, what a beautiful butter yellow with fun embroidery. and those really are the quintessential summer sandals

the puget sound is beautiful and i must say it suits you

but a covered gypsy wagon sounds equally divine hehe I love how you have this travel bug, so many young people are oddly missing the need to see the world, it should almost be a requirement though in my opinion. you must broaden your mind and world and truly learn who you are where you can be the best possible version of yourself

  45. I love the first picture of you against the rocks. The contrast is so lovely. And, wow! The detail on that dress is gorgeous.

I feel like I was born for a wandering life, too, but I haven't had much time to wander yet...

  46. truly love the detail of yellow dress. =)

  47. Interesting, my moving about has instilled in me a great desire to be grounded instead. I am always centred on the end of the journey; I'm the sort that relishes the end not the means. My hippie grandmama is a wanderer though, she says there is no end.

PS: the front of your dress is just so very very very pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Such open stretches of water really do make one want to journey off in no direction to explore and encounter unseen adventures.

I didn't move much as a child at all, but we did travel a lot which has left me hungry for new lands and experiences. For the first time in my life in November, when I graduate, I shall be free to go and do as I please where ever my fancy takes me. I am so excited!

Oh, and that's a very lovely dress!

  49. The front of the yellow dress is spectaqular!!! I always enjoy looking at your photos :) & you have the best shoes.

  53. What a pretty dress, I love the lacy collar. I always used to think about sailing around the orld for a few years and just living on a boat, it would be so nice just to separate yourself from the world for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  54. What an amazing dress! Love love.
Also, the open sea is kind of brutal. Little harbors are the way to go.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Love the dress and I totally know what you mean, I can't go anywhere without a bag - where would I put my stuff?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Your would be such a nice and beautiful gypsy :). I love your style.

  59. Wow, the scalloped lace detailing on the dress is amazing.

Seeing different parts of the country or the world is an exciting thing. Travelling by sea sounds so romantic and peaceful, especially in comparison to the crowded commercial airlines.

  63. Haha I love that second photograph, I actually thought they were shoes when I first looked at it :) And your dress is so beautiful, love the colour!

I have always had a romantic vision of life at sea, it is such a wonderfully enchanting thought. I think some people are quite literally born as free spirits, but for now, I make do with daydreaming of leaving, and coming back from my thoughts feeling refreshed :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Beautiful, amazing, fantastic dress! It looks lovely on you and you look lovely by the sea. :)

  66. Beautiful! I completely identify with this post; I've moved around a lot, too, and think a gypsy-bohemian life of endless traveling would be just the ticket. :) But I like living near the ocean and don't want to leave it anytime soon. It's so breathtaking where you are; I've always wanted to visit Washington. I'd love to take some amazing photos like that! And, oh yes, your dress rocks, too. :D
