I don't wear nearly enough separates. For me it is usually a reach for the most appealing (often meaning newest) dress and then coordinating around that. Separates take a little more thought. However, I wore a version of this outfit in my most recent remix and decided that I wanted to wear this white lace blouse again. The blouse also seemed like a perfect match with my lace sock garters from SWANclothing.
I have to say these garters make me feel cool. Most of my outfits make me feel...pulled together, cute, quirky, etc. Very rarely do I feel cool; I actually still don't quite feel that way, but the garters help. They're such a unique and quietly subversive accessory.

Outfit details:
lace top
UO dress & belt
DIY socks (I used SwanDiamondRose's tutorial)
Yes the garters are absolutely cool. Cool like a female version of one of the gangsters in Guys n Dolls. And just so you know, you look cool lots of other times too.
ReplyDeleteAce!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about hardly ever wearing seperates; I really need to start working on that! I love those garters, they are such a fun accessory!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely cool, those garters. I've seen them before, and I was thinking of purchasing a pair for fall so I can wear thigh highs without the worry that those big cotton things will fall down, as they've been apt to do. However, with us potentially moving to Hawaii next year, it seems kind of wasteful for such a wonderfully novel accessory.
ReplyDeleteI like that skirt. It's nice a full, but still short enough that it gives you that youthful kicky-ness.
I'm in search of a good petticoat for my flowy high waisted skirt... and a good lacy shirt. I think I found one at Madewell.
Much XX.
Mae Lu, thereafterish.
Such a cute outfit. I'm so with you on the dress rather than separates idea.
ReplyDeleteLove the little garters on you too.

and check out my new project - Story of my Clothes
i get what you mean, separates are slightly more tedious to put together.
ReplyDeleteI face the same problem too. On lazy days, I will just pick any dress I see and a blazer/jacket to match.
I like your entire outfit, even the garters which is strange cause I nv did like the idea of garters being worn as part of an outfit.
I love sock garters soooo much. I love this top on you, too. You do look pretty cool. :D
ReplyDeleteADORABLE look.. lovelovelove the sock garters and lace top. :)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it awesome how an accessory can take an outfit from "fun" to cool?! I love the sock garters addition; they definitely add an edge to a sweet outfit. ;)

Ha ha, I like subversive accessories. I agree that skirt/shirt combos are sometimes a little harder to pull off but you do it well here. Lace is always classic.
ReplyDeleteI have a skirt that looks exactly like yours!!

I personally love separates! Its hard for me to find a dress that is flattering on all parts of my body so separates all the way for me! :)
ReplyDeleteLovely outfit!
Cool garters!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly look cool! I think this outfit is awesome. And the scenery . . . !!
ReplyDeleteI used to wear so many skirts and tops but these past few years have got me obsessed with wearing dresses. They're so easy and so appealing and sometimes I can't justify buying a top that costs the same as a dress or a skirt that costs the same as a dress, even though if I really thought about it, a top or a skirt would probably get tons more wear and would probably be way more versatile in the end.
ReplyDeleteI blame it on the plethora of cute vintage dresses and amazing dressed by independent designers tempting me to forgo separates and put on a dress!
I think your sock garters are gorgeous and totally cool. I've never even considered for a moment that I could pull them off but seeing you in them makes me want to try.

ReplyDeleteI really need a pair of those garters! And I find separates far more easy to dress than a... dress :p I guess it's just personal preference (:
