After taking these pictures I was quite dissatisfied with the final product; both the outfit and the photographs themselves. I almost never capture in a photograph exactly what I would like; I'm always reaching for some strange, intangible and seemingly unattainable goal, but I do usually come to some acceptance of my final product. This post however was on the virtual chopping block. The tights especially seemed so jarringly bright, there was something juvenile about them and I wondered why I had chosen to wear them instead of some more understated color (sometimes it is after I take pictures that I realize an outfit doesn't work the way I had envisioned it). Then I remembered the yellow tights in Balenciaga's Pre-Fall 2010 collection and those just at Fendi's F/W 2011 runway. So, while my personal styling is hardly as crisp and fresh as either of those collections, I decided to let the pictures remain. Even the outfits I don't enjoy in retrospect were worn and since I blog, recorded.
Wow, the tights stand out so brightly against the muted dress! And I just love a dress with sleeves. Looking forward to your (green?) St. Patrick's Day outfit tomorrow!
ReplyDeletei adore that dress, and i love how you paired the yellow tights with it, it really adds an extra twist. perfect shoes!!

love this look! :)
ReplyDeleteI lOVE the yellow tights and the pictures! You shouldn't be so hard on yourself! :)
ReplyDeleteIf it is any consolation I think everything works wonderfully together.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I can't say I often don't go through the same thought process with my own photos. We are our own worst critics!
I like it, especially without the jacket. I agree with the blue jacket they are a little jarring. But with just the dress I think they are pretty darn smashing. I would certainly wear it myself!
ReplyDeleteyou look lovely!
much love: kimberellie (with a baby in her belly)
@MollyMalone, I don't take pictures for the blog day-of (b/c it's too stressful), so I just took pics for tomorrow & I'm not wearing green! Not sure I even will wear green tomorrow... :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about an outfit looking better in your head than in the shot. But I have to say I still like this one, so don't worry about it!

You sound just like me! I am hardly ever completely happy with my outfits and photos for my blog. But it is good to keep striving to be better! I think you look great!

It happens to everyone. It's still a really cute dress though, one of my favorites of yours.
ReplyDeleteI'm very glad that you decided to post this outfit, I really like the yellow touch and the tan details over that lovely dress are perfect. If I had to pick my favorite picture, it would probably be the second one, but again, even with the jacket I really love your look.
ReplyDeleteTake care :)

I am exactly the same! I will love my outfit then I will see a picture, or a reflection of myself and get really depressed that I don't look the way I imagine in my head! But it doesn't stop me having fun dressing up :)
ReplyDeleteYes the tights are bright but they look lovely, especially when the coat is removed because the dress and shoes are more of a similar colour pallet.

I REALLY like that dress. The yellow tights was a good color to offset the dress. Very pretty look. :-)sess
ReplyDeleteWow, those tights are amazing! They look stunning with the fabric of the dress. :D
ReplyDeletei actually couldn't disagree more--the tights add such positive energy to this otherwise muted (but still lovely) ensemble. that dress is fabulous, the shoes are amazing, and i love the jacket. i'm so glad you posted--i'm inspired!

I love the tights against the earthy colors of the dress. I can agree it's not your best work, but who cares? It was still indirectly influenced by something else, which will, in turn, influence someone else and so on and so forth.
ReplyDeleteI like the jarringly bright tights. They're a statement. I don't really like them with the shape of the coat, though. I think it looks rather lovely with the shape of the dress and the silhouette really showing. The line and form look so much better when the dress's fullness is counter balanced by the tight bodice and then the whole contrast against the tights, with the shoes and accessories as the unifying color.
I love anything gold or mustard on you. It's left field. :)

Mae Lu @ thereafterish.!
I love your beautiful tights--to me that color reaches out to spring, the way that a daffodil does. I also think they go beautifully with the shoes. I vote YES on this outfit.
ReplyDeletehave we seen a remix with this dress? because i really love it!and i like how it pairs with the tights!
ReplyDeleteLove the brightness of the tights against not only the muted clothing palette but the muted landscape behind you. You are like the first taste of spring popping up.
ReplyDeleteI really like the dress and the tights together.
ReplyDeleteI actually love this outfit, the tights brighten it up.
ReplyDeletei disagree, i love this outfit! the colour is unexpected but really works in my opinion! i especially love the second photo, the movement in the skirt..lovely!

I have to agree with some of the other commenters--it's the jacket that's throwing it off a little. With that dress, though, those tights are dynamite.
ReplyDeleteEveryone has their off days. I know I do! The tights do look amazing though. That's what I love about blogging, you are allowed to take risks and make mistakes. You still are as gorgeous as usual.

LOVE the colors here! Those yellow tights are great!

That's so funny... before I read your text I though - oh wow! Those tights are great! I would never end up wearing that cause I'd be afraid the tights were too bright.
ReplyDeleteBut from an where I'm sitting - they look awesome! And I am tempted to give bright tights a go now :)
I want this whole outfit, it's beaut.

Have you checked out my giveway yet?
Everything looks good on you so don't worry :)
ReplyDeleteI love that dress! The cut and the pattern and the style are all so amazing. The tights are a little bright, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. If anything you're making me want a pair myself!

such a cute dress! And I love the color of those tights with it. Great post ;D
ReplyDeletelove the asymmetrical buttons on that dress so much! I was on the hunt for asymmetrical jackets all winter, but a dress too! yes please.
ReplyDeleteI like the tights, they are really bold.
ReplyDeleteMy Heart Blogged
Amazing dress, great buttons on the side!
ReplyDeleteof course we're all going to love the tights though!
ReplyDeleteIve had moments where I've left the house and feel really unsure about my outfit but it's too late to go back and change, makes for an uncomfortable day
I absolutely love your tights, it's jarring but it makes the outfit!! :)

Hi Rebecca I think your outfit is delightfully cheery!! In your last photo you are laughing, what are you laughing about if you do not mind me asking?
ReplyDeletei like the pop! definitely reminds me of the fendi show which i loved. keep mixing :)
ReplyDelete@Anonymous (5:45PM), thanks! And gosh, I don't really remember. I actually laugh a lot when I take pictures when things go wrong. Like, if I trip, or I try to put my hands in my pockets & somehow fail to do that simple task; it just cracks me up how ungraceful I can be...
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favourite drsses of yours and those tights bring out a yellow stripe I never noticed before!
ReplyDeleteShy
I like the yellow! There's something youthful about it, yes, but you look so very young that it's not jarring at all. I also love the way the color works with the very sophisticated color of the shoes.
ReplyDeleteI didn't like my photos today, either. C'est la vie?
Sometimes it's nice not to over think things and just go with your gut instinct. I really loved the yellow tights as soon as I looked at the photos.
ReplyDeleteThe yellow tights are a really good dash of colour, juvenial or not, they make a day sunnier which is always a good thing. :)
ReplyDeleteIf I saw those yellow tights by themselves I would definitely be intimidated by them. However, you pull them off nicely in this outfit and suddenly they don't seem to 'scary' anymore. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeletejohn keats-genius! love your vintage dress. can't seem to get enough of plaid dresses.
ReplyDeleteOh my! a pair of mustard colored tights is simply a MUST for me after seeing this post!
ReplyDeleteLovely look ! Kiss xxx
