"So was I once myself a swinger of birches.
And so I dream of going back to be.
It's when I'm weary of considerations,
And life is too much like a pathless wood..." -Robert Frost

I tend to avoid talking about the process of taking my pictures, because the tripod, self-timer, and difficulty involved, tends to take the romanticism out of the final product. However, I have to say: this set has been one of the most difficult and most rewarding so far. I literally had to climb this tree in ten seconds and more than a dozen times. Needless to say, there were many images of me awkwardly mid-climb with my butt up in the air...

Outfit details:
Urban Outfitters jacket
dress, bag, and necklace courtesy of Modcloth
tights, gift
Bloch wedges via Giltfuse
Old Gold Boutique ring
i was wondering how you took pictures!
ReplyDeletethat dress is very cute, softly elegant. perfect for climbing trees, romping around the forest.
Well, it was worth it. Those are some gorgeous pictures and that's a lovely outfit. Very romantic.
ReplyDeleteAh, the joys of self timer! At least for the zillion bad pictures there are a couple that you can actually use!
ReplyDeleteThat tree is so unique!
I can relate to your angst, but I have to say the final product is truly lovely. The green mossy tree makes your hair stand out as a very beautiful color.
ReplyDeletexx
hehehe! oh the joys of the self- timer! well, needless to say, they turned out beautiful :D the moss and the fern growing on the tree are gorgeous.
ReplyDeletethese photos are stunning! you look ethereal!!! love the bag!
ReplyDeletewwooow, these are pretty, definitely worth the effort. strange, I've never thought how difficult taking your pictures must be!! good work :) xxx
ReplyDeletetotally worth it - it does sound difficult though!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have the patience for that! But the result was totally worth it, the images are beautiful and romantic. It must be the light bt your hair looks even more red than usual, its gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThese really are wondeful photos, and I love that dress. I understand what you mean,I've often tried to climb trees ect in 10 seconds to get a good photo.I didn't use to have a tripod,so I had many problems with balancing my camera too!
ReplyDeleteSofie
onetoomanywishes.blogspot.com
HAHA I can just imagine you trying to scramble up a tree before the timer is finished! I would have snagged my tights all over the place and there would be lots of photos of me looking all madfaced.
ReplyDeleteThey turned out beautiful, of course! <3
You've got to get yourself a remote! Even if you don't want to have it in your hand in the photos, some cameras have a 2 second remote setting so that the shutter doesn't go off until two seconds after you push the button on the remote, giving you some time to hide it in a pocket or something.
ReplyDeleteyou do great things with that dress! so many fun looks :)
ReplyDeletemy fave is that horsey watch necklace, how lovely!
That tree is phenomenal!
ReplyDeleteI love the color of this outfit :)
ReplyDeletegorgeous dress and bag! and i know what you mean, i need to take at least 50 hideous pictures to get 5 semi-decent ones... ah, blogging is an inelegant task indeed!
ReplyDeleteyour hard work paid off, I admire your photos as much as I admire your outfits. And I really respect how you keep finding new, inventive, photo locations.
ReplyDelete-indigo
=) robert frost
ReplyDelete~lydia
Ah, it's good to know that even you Rebecca have self timer issues and out takes! :)
ReplyDeleteI love that necklace so much!
These photos are beautiful, and they are certainly worth the effort. Do you shoot with an SLR? If you do, you should get a wireless remote. I do that with my outfit shots now, and it makes things so much easier.
ReplyDeleteI love that Frost poem!!!! I want to own everything you are wearing in your photos, including the photos!!! they are great and you look AMAZING in them.
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely get a remote!! It will allow you to be much more comfortable and creative because you won't have to deal with all the running and messed up shots! They're so inexpensive, it's totally worth it. I just got one and LOVEEEEE it.
ReplyDeleteyour effort paid off. these pictures are fantastic. the colors and your outfit... j'adore.
ReplyDelete:) I'm glad you mentioned your process because after all your countless effortless-seeming ethereal and romantic shots, it lets us know that you are after all human. I can only imagine the pain of shimmying up that tree in time though! The end result is indeed stunning btw.
ReplyDeletelove the details of that ring. all things animal and it great that you were posing on the tree! did you fall at all?? I would have fall over multiple times. kudos!
ReplyDeletexo, Kim www.crowded-closet.com

ReplyDeleteSuch pretty pictures! And knowing that you put so much time and effort into them makes them even better! P.S I am in LOVE with that ring!
ReplyDeletei always adore your pictures.. no matter how you take them!! that story made me giggle a bit! teehee! :D i still think that the pictures turned out amazing! :D
ReplyDeletethat's some pretty intense self-timer work... i can hardly handle pictures in my own bedroom.
ReplyDeletei love the ring, too. old gold's pear ring is now on my to-get list
Haha, I loved the description of you trying to climb a tree in less than ten seconds. You look so relaxed in the photo, picturing you scrambling up there is too too funny.
ReplyDeleteAlso ugh, I am so gilt/giltfuse obsessed! Today they were having a moleskine sell and I bought one of those 12-month planner sets and some tights and socks... for less than the price of buying the planners alone (plus free shipping!). I am a total fangirl.
you most definitely have the most romantic photos i've ever seen...you're quite talented. that ring is absolutely adorable too, thank you for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteno way, that ring is too beautiful! i like it so much, asnd your accesories in general are so pretty with a vintage look.
ReplyDeletehttp://catbazaar.blogspot.com/
Seriously love the mustard leather. I am like you who usually says no to leather but would have definitely made an exception for this lovely piece. Think I might go thrifting now.
ReplyDeleteTwila
It's funny how much work some photoshoots take, especially when it's a tripod/selftimer shoot. I love these photos! I saw the tree climbing one on Lookbook and just fell in love.
ReplyDeleteworth it. the picture are gorgeous! =D
ReplyDeleteand the ring is adorable <3
What a lovely tree and forest, and I love your dress! Maybe you should invest in a remote to take your pictures! Then you can climb all the way to the top and take the picture from there.
ReplyDeleteI love your photos! I am very impressed with your scenery and shots. How do you find these wonderful landscapes?
ReplyDeleteI love that bag!
ReplyDeleteinvest in a remote - seriously, I just got one and it's so helpful! :)
ReplyDeletesplendid photos!!
Your dress is really pretty!
ReplyDeleteLoce the ring and the necklace ! God,you always have amazing accesories :) Do you like to invest more in accesories or clothes ?
ReplyDeleteI can't get over your ring, its awesome.
ReplyDeletehttp://thedollhouse0101.blogspot.com/
what kind of camera do you use? I've always wondered. :)
ReplyDeleteanyways, amazing photos as usual!
your photos are always amazing, I would say the effort is well worth it, you have some of the best photos in this blogosphere
ReplyDeleteUgh I hate self timer shoots, they don't give you time to do anything! You look very graceful in all of them though, so props for climbing the tree and looking fashionable! haha
ReplyDeletelove the bag, and dress!

Since I've started working with the self-timer I realize how terribly difficult it is. These pictures are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is funny to think of you setting up the camera, running over the tree, trying to sit gracefully while not ruining your lovely outfit. But you are right that it is so worth it. I imagine you have to take many pictures, though using a delay (which I am sure you do) will cut out some of those. :L)
ReplyDeletesimply.enchanting.
ReplyDeleteit;s definitely amazing that you do this all by yourself. teach me! haha. i love your dress.. :)
ReplyDeleteomg that tree is friggan awesome. so is the outfit...but seriously how did you find that tree?? it doesnt even look real....ahhh <3 the pacific north west...
ReplyDeleteYou have a fantastic blog, I am a true fan. Puts mine to shame! The ring is so sweet.
ReplyDeletei like the colour of your nail polish
ReplyDeleteWow, I had no idea!
ReplyDeleteAmazing job! I'd never have the patience!
You look beautiful
xo
I only very recently (read: this week) started photographing my outfits for posterity. And even in the small, controlable confines of my apartment it's still a challenge, fun but occasionally frustrating. I can only imagine what it was like trying to scramble up a tree!
ReplyDeleteHowever, once again, you've inspired me. I might just have to go exploring outside soon...
one could do worse than be a swinger of birches.
ReplyDeletefabulous outfit, you always have the craziest rings, I love them!
xo Caitlin
I totally suck at using self timers! I always end up looking really stiff and awkward. You manage to look relaxed and gorgeous all the time! <3
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the feeling of that last one. Yeah, I have similar experiences with my pics too:)
ReplyDeletelovely photos, i love the outfit, the colour scheme is really good. the dress is gorgeous
ReplyDeleteyour dedication to getting perfect pictures is what makes your blog so special.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are beautiful! I love the necklace. My favorite boutique is going online and they sent me this VIP card with amazing perks, like free shipping! I thought I would share it with everyone.

Enjoy!

I really love the contrast of your pretty red locks and the moss on this tree--fabulous series of photos.
ReplyDeleteMay I ask--do you use editing software for your photos? like photoshop or anything else? I love the soft, warm effect of your images.
xoxo,
Gina
gorgeous! i cant believe you do all of those beautiful pictures with just a tripod.
ReplyDeleteLove the jewelry!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! Your pics inspire me to get out there! This outfit is fantastic, and I love the setting and the rich colors in your photographs!

ReplyDeleteAh I can imagine the outtakes! These photos turned out so well.
ReplyDeleteLove the bag and the dress, so pretty1
he he he; a remote would have been practical for that shoot! I must say the good one turn out Amazing; so all that climbing was worth it!
ReplyDelete-Coco from Our Paper Moon
That ring is the most amazing thing I've seen all day. Also, your awkward butt photos are definitely worth the end results!
ReplyDeleteI really love this outfit. Super fantastic. It may be my most favorite yet (can one say: "most favorite"? The last picture is totally beautiful and eerie. There's is definitely magic to it!
ReplyDeleteThe red purse with everything: just perfect!
Also, I'm pretty sure we live close geographically sort of. We always have the same weather!
These pictures were well worth it! Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks for sharing your photo-taking journeys. It definitely makes your pictures more personal and it helps me appreciate your photos more. You're a good story teller too; I actually laughed out loud, in a good way. :)
ReplyDeleteI love every detail about your outfit and your photos are always beautiful! Thanks for the post!
So lovely! I need to get a tripod to make picture taking easier, I'm so horrible at it! And I do love a good Robert Frost poem =)
ReplyDeletehee hee! that is too funny! thank you for your honesty. i was always curious over the identity of your photographer. turns out, you're just very good at taking your own images!
ReplyDeleteit's well worth it though. thanks again for sharing about the process!
These photos are gorgous, definitely worth all the trouble! :) The last one is my favorite- it's so dreamy and pretty!
ReplyDeletehttp://playingdressupwithkellie.blogspot.com/
Love the red bag, it's so pretty :)
ReplyDeleteIt does take a lot of practice that I have never learned to perfect. I don't even know how you manage to walk around with a tripod without feeling awkward, and yet you make your (as you said) romantic magic happen.
ReplyDeleteIt really is magic, the way you photograph. Everything looks so perfectly story-boarded, it makes me envious. I do the best I can in the house I have, because tis much too cold to go outside, and there's the added bit that I have never surmounted the awkwardness and embarrassment that comes with taking photos in an urban environment for the sake of a blog... I have never gotten over the the idea of risking it, so I doubt I will ever get the bravery... I am much too old now, I suppose (I know I look young. I'm not. I'll be 28 in a few months.)
Anyway, you still make the magic happen, and I'm grateful for it. You're my little fashion faerie, enchanting my eyes from your mystical woods and meadows, in faraway, magical, happy lands.
Thanks, R.
Oh that was funny ... butt up in the air. I'm telling you it's worth it, I just adore your photo's.
ReplyDeleteReally in love with the ring and necklace, so original and of course the outfit.
xxx
*lol Love it, the dedication to taking the perfect shot.
ReplyDeleteYou should get a remote (has someone already suggested this? There are too many comments to read them all just at this moment).
I used to do the same thing, then got myself a remote and, hey presto, photo time is much less time consuming/exhausting/error filled!
renewvintage.blogspot
All that hard work paid off! I absolutely love the first photo. Isn't that the dress Modcloth named after you?
ReplyDeleteAnd that part about some pictures with your butt in the air-- hahaha, oh how funny. :) not in a bad way!
http://charmalade.blogspot.com
We just read that poem in English.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures!
I love your blog.

The branch photos are so amazing! And I love how the red of the bag compliments your peach dress, which in turn compliments the color of your hair!

that ring is great. have you been dying your hair? it looks lovely anyway
ReplyDeletewow,GORGEOUS!
ReplyDeleteyou have the most lovely jewelry. That ring is heaven. <3 C
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are truly stunning and I know what you mean about the difficulty of getting pictures right and having loads of inappropriate ones taken in the process :)
ReplyDeleteThe hemline on that dress is crazy gorgeous!
wow i dont know how you manage to achieve such great pictures with just a stand and self timer
ReplyDeletei use the same but my pictures never turn out like this!
stunning backdrop too
:)
That ring is incredible. I saw it not too long ago while poking around the internet. Glad to see you're rocking it :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing photos!! All that climbing got you a boost of endorphins and you smiled!!! Awsome photos & outfits!
ReplyDeleteLove the bright red bag in these shots, it stands out so much!
ReplyDeletewe should get remotes for our cameras. i hate the 10 second dance too. i think they're only about $15 -$20.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos!! You are so pretty!! xoxo
ReplyDeletegorgeous! love everything, especially that ring!
ReplyDeletekatthroatworld.blogspot.com
I'm beginning to think you and I are twins. My hair is slightly less red than yours at the moment (though it's close - do you dye yours?) but it's pretty much the exact same haircut. Also, that mustard yellow leather skirt? Pretty sure I own its twin.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I can't remember if I've commented before, but I adore your blog. I read it every day and you've been a huge style inspiration :)
I love everything, Rebecca! Your hair is so pretty too! I'm so excited to be seeing you in a couple of weeks!
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog, it's lovely, beautiful and as you had hoped romantic..thank you! I am adding you to my blogroll, have a look at my blog, tell me your thoughts...www.christinevieira.com/blog
ReplyDeleteThose pictures are SO beautiful. What an amazing moss-covered tree!!! I love the story about taking the pics. I can imagine!!! It was really worth it though. Love love love that amazing ring.
ReplyDeletexo
i can totally relate to the difficulty of this. it looks fantastic, worth the pain :)
ReplyDeleteOh, you described the process/final product so perfectly! The process indeed is a very unromantic fact, but the result is beautiful. And I fell in love with the poem and especially the part you used as a title for this post. I too was a climber of trees...
ReplyDeletei love this! the accessories are particularly great :)
ReplyDeletelove your ring dear.
ReplyDeletexx-LJ from SOS!
The pictures were worth it! I love that big mossy tree. The red bag is such a nice pop of color against your dress and the green and brown of the tree.
ReplyDeletethe jewelry is amazing, so cute and charming!!
ReplyDeleteI love these pictures. The colors are so vibrant.
ReplyDeleteThanks for insight into the process! I've always wondered how I would convince someone to follow me around to get some nice pics. Ah, a tripod and timer- brilliant. Not magic, but brilliance. Thanks for the possibilities and inspiration.
ReplyDeleteHey its me again, I wrote a blog today about my favorite bloggers and I thought you might want to check it out

Sarah
things that take the most effort out of you make the best product - these photos are breathtaking. love the soft moss on the trees and how you simply blend into your surroundings.
ReplyDeletexo.
princesspolitico
That ring is so cuuuute.
ReplyDeleteand here i complain about the ten second run i make from the camera to a spot straight ahead.
ReplyDeletelove the setting and your jacket. the ring is gorgeous!
that's a super awesome ring! and your photos are always always perfect.
ReplyDeleteThat ring is SO unique! I adore it!
ReplyDeleteHoly smokes, I cannot believe you manage to get such amazing shots using a self timer! If your camera isn't compatible with a wireless remote, you might see if it has a setting on the self timer where it'll shoot several frames in succession -- at least that way you'll several tries for every time you have to hit the button and make a run for it!
ReplyDeletei can't believe you take your own photos..they are lovely!
ReplyDeletei always have such a difficult time with the self timer myself...i envy the bloggers that have a photographer!
you look lovely:)
haha, I bet your outtakes are just as adorable as the finished product somehow...
ReplyDeleteLove the Photos!! amazing!
ReplyDelete
