On Safari To Stay

I recently was offered a few items to try out from Sophistix, a clothing shop based out of Singapore (they ship internationally). After seeing the pieces for myself and wearing them, I'm totally sold on the store. They're much more modern than what I'm used to wearing, but it's a nice change and each piece has a lot of lovely details. This dress features sweet little flutter sleeves and a crazy shaped skirt that just drapes in such an interesting way. The print makes me feel as if I'm on safari, which is a pleasant form of escapism. If you are thinking about shopping there and you're from the US, the sizes do run smaller than our standard; I'm wearing a small and it's quite fitted.
P.S. At the moment it looks like I will be postponing law school for a year. As my father put it, "I've decided I'm not ready to decide." I won't bore you on the details and factors that went into the whole process, but I did want to update everyone on my current decision...I have some ideas on how to keep myself busy in this year and law school is still somewhere on the horizon.

  1. Whatever you choose, or not choose, to do with law school, I wish you all the good will that needs to come with making a big decision!

I love the basic all black and white look of this outfit-- I'm a big fan of animal print, and the cut and shape of this dress are so fun. Very cute. :)

  4. I hope you decide what you really want to do. It would suck if you made the wrong choice. I'm still contemplating whether or not I made the right decision with my current university. I wish I'd really taken time to think.

Love this dress, it is very modern though, but the print is gorgeous.

  6. I really love the exposed zipper

Hmm I am quite curious to see what you do next year, but I guess blindly throwing yourself into something you're unsure of isn't a good idea.

  7. I, too, recently decided not to decide. It's quite empowering, really. No, you don't have a handy perfect answer when folks ask what you're going to get up to, but that's kind of a good thing...

Enjoy. Love this dress, love your blog. PS wish Modcloth would bring back your namesake dress; I want one!

PS: I'm glad you've decided to hold of for a bit on law school. seems to me you have a lot of (blog/fashion related) things you could do in the meantime. Of course, I'm sure there are many other thing aside from that too!

  25. good for you, I postponned going to Grad school for almost five years! it gave me a chance to do so many things and discover what I really wanted to do. Now I'm knee deep and it's so overwhelming, I dont think I would have been able to handle it when I was younger

I think law school is definitely something you don't want to rush into. No point studying if you're not into it.

  29. That dress is so pretty! I love old clothing but modern clothing has lovely charms, too. :) The zipzip down the front is such a nice detail.

Also, taking a year to decide on law school probably isn't a bad thing. Especially since once you're in you're going to be committed and working hard. Take some time to enjoy and explore your blogging further! You're clearly enjoying success with it.

  49. As a third-year law student, I think you're making the right decision. I see so many people rush into law school -- including myself -- and then ending up really disillusioned and not even wanting to be lawyers. I applaud you for taking some time to figure out if it's what you want before you sacrifice three years of your youth and end up in 150K in debt. Plus, you might not have time as a 1L to update the blog as much!

  50. Wow! This outfit is really great! I love the print and I think it looks great on you!

I think your making the right decision about Law School. I kind of rushed into school this year and it was a really huge mistake and I really wish that I would have waited a bit longer. Best of luck!

  51. wonderful look! Your hair is so good here too. Yep and nothing wrong with taking your time to figure out what you want to do for school.

  52. I love this dress! The draping is really neat. I think it's a good decision to put off making a decision-- you really don't want to invest all that money until you're sold on that particular field of work. Maybe you could intern or do some secretarial work for a law firm to check out the area in which you're interested.

    Good luck!

  53. Taking a break from school is ok but don't lose yourself. Time waits for no one.

  54. I was wondering how that was working out, and wouldn't be bored with the details. I think it's kind of fascinating since you had at least one acceptance in hand. Both law and medicine you would have to be absolutely sure about though, the right thing at the right place, I think. I wouldn't think either of those would be very forgiving of indecision after the fact. Hang in there, as I always say, and it sounds like you have great moral support.

I agree with the Anonymous just prior to me, though! How weird is that?
