I had given up on finding the perfect white, lace dress for spring and then I stumbled across this beauty at an antique mall. Other than being several inches too long (even in heels), it fit like a charm. If I had any knowledge of a wedding in my future, I would probably hold on to this dress in its pristine state for such a day...however (and not to break anyone's heart) instead I intend to chop it into a knee-length dress. Yes, I am going to commit highest treason and alter a vintage treasure, but it's in my possession now and subject to my totalitarian will. Still, we will all always have these pictures to remember what it once was...
Outfit details:
vintage dress
Yellowstone National Park gift shop necklace
mixed rings via Gilt and street vendors
That dress is absolutely stunning.

the frilly white collar is gorgeous! i love the last picture of you lieing in the grass, so whimical. it reminds me of tuck everlasting because winniw wore a dress like that for most of the movie (not the disney version)!
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous! It reminds me of that Victorian inspired peach dress I posted recently. I also contemplated hemming, but decided against it only because I fell in love with the ridiculous length. I think there's nothing wrong with hemming a dress to make it wearable and bring it into this era! In fact, I think they appreciate it as it gives them new life! Unless of course it's a truly rare one-of-a-kind piece, in which case the mutilator should be publicly flogged.
ReplyDeleteI love the second-to-last picture- it looks like a Winslow painting.
ReplyDeleteGood luck hemming that dress! Are you planning to use a rolled hem or a blind hem...or something completely different?
This dress is perfect! I'm in love with it...
ReplyDeleteSo feminine and pretty!
ReplyDeleteoh wow, you do look like a bride, a fantastic one! love the rings, they had some roughness to the sweet dress.
ReplyDeleteanyway I agree it will look better when shorter.
x
Lace is so in at the moment- this dress is lovely!

The dress is gorgeous and a great find! I wonder if you might do something with the collar too - i'm sure many people love it (it's fabulous) but it kind of swamps you. Just a thought! can't wait to see how it turns out in the shorter length!
ReplyDeletele sigh. I need someone to teach me how to shop for vintage treasures. :)
The lace makes the prettiest shadows, doesn't it? And these pictures make you look like a Little House on the Prairie bride. :) And you're a braver person than I, to alter a dress (much less vintage!). Can't wait to see its altered state!
ReplyDeleteToast with Charmalade
Wow, that dress is an incredible find. It fits you perfectly and as much as I adore it long, it will be the perfect little white dress in the summer once you've altered it. Wow.
ReplyDeleteit would be a sin if you did not hem that dress =x
ReplyDeletewhat an amazing dress! You feel very long in it, aren't you?
ReplyDeleteWow that dress is amazing!

ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning dress, and stunning pictures. Absolutely magical.
ReplyDeletewow, what an incredible anne of green gables-esq find! I do love the length, and it does make me sad that you intend to hem it, but I think it's the right choice. Hard to wear a dress that long and it deserves a lot of attention. Great post!
ReplyDeleteVery romantic :-)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the dress again post-treason ;-)
sweetest girl with that dress.

ReplyDeleteomg it's amazing. dont cut it!!!!! ahhh!!!!
ReplyDeleteDreamy dress! I love the length on you!
ReplyDeleteit looks like something out of a movie !
ReplyDeleteAmazing dress! I'm sure it looks even better when it's short, at least it's more wearable then :) x
ReplyDelete...would that title be a reference to the amazing sequel to Cheaper by the Dozen (the original one)? because that would be awesome.
ReplyDeletebeautiful dress, by the way, and great photos as always.
You look absolutely beautiful in this dress. What an amazing find! Can't wait to see the new shorter version, I'm sure it will look great!
ReplyDeleteThis is a stunning and flattering dress! It pains me to know that you're going to cut it. Though I would probably have done the same.
ReplyDeleteOh, but it's going to be such a great knee-length dress!
ReplyDeleteWow, this dress is just amazing! Have you read "Effi Briest"? It reminds me so much of this book. :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteEep! Okay okay, you can do it, just remember to keep the length proportionate to the collar. I can't wait to see you style it and wear it the forest or the meadow or one of your lovely settings! x
ReplyDeleteThat dress is so gorgeous... it's very ethereal!

that dress is lovely
ReplyDeletei believe it will make a very adorable knee length dress but it is a shame. the full length dress is amazing
What an amazing find. I just love it.
ReplyDeletewow that was thrifted? it looks really nice like....really really nice. i like it
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh it is perfect. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
ReplyDeleteI have one that looks exactly like this except it's cream with no lace. I found it 6 years ago at an awesome yard sale in Nashville. I've never worn it, but you are inspiring me to!
ReplyDeletesarahhartsu.blogspot.com
Beautiful dress, but I don't blame you for wanting to cut it - much more wearable that way.
ReplyDeletethese pictures are so gorgeous!
ReplyDeletealso, in regards to your last post, i can't believe your dad picked out that fascinator for you! he must know his daughter very well!
You should just remove the bottom tier of the dress and leave it almost-full-length. It's such an incredibly gorgeous dress and I think at knee-length it wouldn't be quite so lovely.
ReplyDeletesimply gorgeous!!!!
ReplyDeletethat dress, oh my god, that dress.
ReplyDeleteI want to tell you to not cut it, but the truth is, it will be so much more wearable then.
it's just too beautiful now, agh. AMAZING find.
ahhhh noooo do not cut up the dress! it looks absolutely stunning the way it is. you will regret altering it! most of your dresses are above the knee, and this really stands apart in the best of ways. please save it how it is, espeically if you are considering wearing it for your wedding! =)
ReplyDelete@Anonymous (and everyone else), sorry but I am making it knee length! That length suits me and even if I tried to keep this long, I'd have to hem about 4 inches off (to wear with heels); being 5'1" means this dress is impossible as it is...
ReplyDeletesuch a beautiful dress. while i appreciate the length, i think it's gonna look absolutely lovely at the proper length for your frame, and it will certainly be more wearable. can't wait to see the finished piece!
ReplyDeletestunning dress. i love the updo here. and really enjoyed the photos of bookshelves.
ReplyDeleteNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Don't chop it. Please :(
ReplyDeleteThis dress is so beautiful!!

AHHH you can't chop it! As lovely as it would look short, Its just so beautiful long. I could never do it. Maybe you could get a dress maker to try and find a way to deattach the bottom so that it is connectable again in the future. Then you can wear it as a wedding dress :)
ReplyDeletethis is absolutely gorgeous! Oh wow!!!
ReplyDeleteYou look like you just stepped out of the Victorian era. So, so lovely.
ReplyDeleteSo very pretty, however I look forward to see the changes you make to it !
ReplyDeletewow! amazing dress and beautiful pictures
ReplyDeletewowwwww, it is absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteIt's absolutely breathtaking! How lucky of you to find it. I agree: it's gorgeous this way but hemming it would be the right way to go, I think. (:

Noooooooooo
ReplyDeleteI say chop away! Unless you plan on growing a few inches and suddenly decide to get married, how much wear will you get out of it otherwise? Can't wait to see the finished product. I'm sure it will be just as lovely as in its original form!
ReplyDeletethis dress is so feminine and lovely! a white dress is definitely a summer staple, and i am beyond jealous of your find!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous gown!! I am sorry to spam, but I'm having a giveaway in my blog where you can win two tickets to SATC hotspot tour, please come and try your luck!
