It's Always Ourselves We Find In The Sea

I leave a trail of sand behind me everywhere I wander. Tiny grains of gold cling to me long after I have abandoned the ocean shore. A series of miniature beaches has formed in all of my purses; tiny oases that don't belong inside the pretty lining and make my car keys look like shipwreck victims. My bedroom floor is coated with a thin layer of salt and sand; it gathers in drifts near my shoes and grows more shallow near the boundary of my door. My feet trace confused paths around the room; hectic and bewildered prints near closet, but heavy and weary ones beside my bed. If you manage to follow them long enough they will always lead you back to the sea.

  2. Beautifully written and so true! As a surfer, I can totally relate to this . . . I'm always finding little pools of sand in the bottom of my bags that make me wish for warm weather!

  4. "I must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky!"

These pictures are exactly how I represent summer in my mind. I love the almost-faded light.

  17. While it is always a joy to encounter the visuals in your post, I have always looked forward to reading what you have written as accompaniments. I must say that I appreciated your written descriptions far more today, how evocatively and beautifully you have conjured up the sensation of the sea and the beach lingering behind you, like a phantom, long after you have left them. I especially loved the line, 'A series of miniature beaches have formed in all of my purses'...

  18. @Patricia, yep, I think you can see my head & the camera in that sunglasses a bit. I just kept the camera on the tripod & used the self-timer as usual, but put my hands in front of it. :)
