Middle Of The Road

I was just talking on Twitter last night to Bestie and I told her I think she's much more sartorially adventurous than me. It's true too (& she's not the only one!); she experiments with maxi skirts and trousers while I get sucked into a routine of mini-skirts and vintage dresses. Sometimes I blame it on my height (it's hard to find maxi skirts you won't trip on when you're petite or trousers you don't have to hem for that matter), but I do know how to sew and those are rather easy fixes. It's not that I dislike my current style, it's just sometimes I worry I avoid things because they're a little difficult to find or I think they might not flatter me. However, I don't think those are good reasons to avoid trying new things, even just in regards to your closet. Thankfully, there are so many stylish ladies on the web taking chances and mixing things up that I'm inspired to wear trousers from time to time and hopefully experiment more too!

  1. Love the pop of color in the bag and how it matches the leaves in the background. I think we could all handle being a bit more adventurous. I certainly know I could. And I love this outfit!

  3. I was just thinking the same thing yesterday. It's easy, for me, to fall in the rut of cardigan, skirt and tights. And I'll keep reaching for those things.

Today, I wore pants and it was a minor victory. :)

  4. I have exactly the same problem than you with long dresses or skirts, it's sad because I would love to wear some more often!
I must find a good tailor to make some hems for me!
By the way, really nice red bag!! *3*

  6. i really like this outfit. it has a very tomboy preppy uni boyish feel to it. i thought of michelle williams when i saw it. i know what you mean though, and i am really short too, so oftentimes i think a lot of it does come from being short - esp. with maxi dresses and skirts. you do have take into account your body shape - certain items just do not work on certain body shapes, but i do think that as you said, if you tailor items, any specific style can be worn by anyone, as long is it is tailored for their body.

  8. I actually prefer your blog to others because you stick to the way you dress. Like someone else said, my "uniform" is tights, a dress, and a cardigan. Sometimes I wear pants when it's really cold, and I'll pull out a maxi dress or two in the summer. I like reading (and looking) at your blog because it inspires me to try new types of dresses or outfit combinations. I may think someone looks beautiful in a pair of trousers, but 9 times out of 10 I won't attempt to draw a look of my own from it. However, all of your outfits are daily inspiration that hits close my personal style.
So keep up the dresses and cardigans ;)

I tend to stick to dresses all the time too, mostly because I just find them so much more comfortable. pants are so chic though, I wish I liked them more!

  18. I actually like to take inspiration from the way you wear trousers because I'm quite petite too. I need to find more pairs like the ones you have because they look amazing on you. You always look so cute and comfy in them.

  19. It's crazy to think that you use style blogs for inspiration, when it's us that's using you for inspiration. Love the gingham, btw!

  20. You seem to find such great fitting jeans- I definitely think that skinny jeans are the way to go for us shorter ladies but you're right, skirts and dresses with pretty coloured tights are just easier generally. Love this outfit. Also really love the earrings in the post above, I accumulated so many pairs when I had a bob...the arrow ones and the very last ones are so pretty. I like to mix and match and wear all different ones in my ears :)

  25. I really like how you look in trousers... I liked when you started wearing them more this fall and thought it was a shame that you were planning to stop after cutting your hair. Glad that hasn´t happened. I love dresses, but trousers have a different sort of appeal. : )

  26. I totally relate to this. I wish I were more adventurous with clothes, but I always go back to the things that I know work for me. Not to mention the fact that I'm a teacher in the Midwest, where things are already about as conservative as can be!

  27. As you [might] know I am exactly the same height as you, but I think part of the reason why I tend to dress in trousers and maxis more is the fact that I commute everywhere. I actually rarely wear short-length anything because I want to avoid flashing people while getting on and off our local modes of transportation. Haha. And so, because I wear these "long things" all the time, I kind of HAVE to be more adventurous with styling, lest I should end up with the same look every single day.

I do however think you ARE adventurous with the way you dress, but in a good way too because you still stick to who you are sartorially - which is something I've always admired. I couldn't do it, no matter how hard I try. I'm fickle like that. (:

And like I said on Twitter: you are better at it (shopping for and wearing these things) than you think. Just take it one day at a time and before you know it you'll be more of a style chameleon than I am. Haha.

    PS
Didn't mean to write a novel there. :p
