I avoid booties cause I've got short legs that usually spawn Scully jokes from my friends; since I love Scully and the X-files I don't mind the jokes, but I don't see a reason to emphasize my shortness. Which is what ankle boots do--emphasize the shortness. But in fall and winter I get jealous of those "cool girls" who manage to look effortlessly awesome in their studded, buckled, and beaten-up boots and I end up trying to duplicate the look. And besides if Scully could rock an over-sized trench coat and jackets with massive shoulder pads, then I think I'll be ok with some leg-shortening boots.
