Whenever I dress overtly preppy I always feel like a caricature. I never feel like myself in pearls and collared shirts, but they're fun when you go for a theme. Today I wanted to look like one of the teenagers Nina Leen photographed in the late 1940s through the 1970s. I resisted their ubiquitous saddle shoes for a slightly modern take on the look, but I do find a lot of inspiration in those vintage photographs--minus the pearls I do like the classic look of a sweater and tweedy or plaid skirt. I love how basic this skirt is; the thicker material makes it perfect for fall and winter outfits and the color will go with nearly any cozy sweater in my closet. Anyway, if you haven't seen Nina Leen's photographs before you should definitely check them out--she was a prolific photographer and her work of teenagers is very documentary.
