I had to post these pictures because, well, everything is better at the fair. Especially when it's 1941 and Vermont. With all the admiration I hold for pictures that imitate vintage photographs, it's even better to spend some time viewing the "real deal."

I spend far too much time looking through the Library of Congress archives. My vision of America is totally aged. But oh well, I still London in Victorian terms. Hope you're having a lovely week.
ReplyDeletewow these are fantastic!
ReplyDeletei adore these photos. i agree with dapper kid, i always find myself daydreaming whilst looking through the library of congress...sigh.
ReplyDeletethese look like the set of a vogue shoot! how cool.
ReplyDeletefairgrounds and vintage photographs go together like peas and carrots. i love how you can see the wind in the girl's hair.

ReplyDeleteOops I think you meant 1941...I saw bare legs and I thought, "1914...really???"...
ReplyDeletewow those pictures are so simply lovely, they remind me of a fifties funfair xxx
ReplyDeleteI love going to state fairs .... but I have to say, I love MY state fair as well :P
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!

I love these. They seem so simplistic in their energy and fun.
ReplyDeleteoh the ferris wheel...is it weird that i'm scared of those things? the pics are lovely.
ReplyDeleteI lvoe the pictures!!
ReplyDeleteOooh how fun! I've always wanted to go to a fair...like the one in the film State Fair. Or any other fun carnival really...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. I'm a little obsessed with ferris wheels - I think they're so inspiring!
ReplyDelete1914? Really? Wow! These are lovely, I've never been to the state fair before....
ReplyDeleteoh yes, everything is better at a fair! You might like the video in my last blog post :)

I loVermont.
ReplyDeleteI want to meet the girl doing the handstand. So cute!
ReplyDeleteI should really browse the archives myself. So weird seeing old moments in color.
& I hope you have Happy Holidays yourself!
Omgsh! I have that last picture in my room. Shhh don't tell but I printed out a bunch of pics from the library of congress archives and they're collaged in my room. Glad we liked the same one! :)
ReplyDeleteThat ferris wheel picture is GORGEOUS. Ah, makes me want to go to a fair... or watch "Meet Me in St. Louis!"
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think it's crazy too that the girls nixed the McQueen show. I mean, I guess I understand if they were concerned about breaking their ankles or whatever but IT'S ALEXANDER MCQUEEN YO.
yeah, the library of congress is a fantastic source for old photos -- in color. to think, the world looked like that in 1941 and not the bw images that we're so used to seeing. i think it's pretty amazing.
ReplyDeleteFun! i love the ferris wheel shot.
ReplyDeleteYay! These photos are great. I went to the Iowa State Fair, ate 4 fried things, felt sick within an hour, and saw like a 2,000 pound wild boar, felt bad for it, and then went home without going on a single ride because they all cost 30 dollars. Not to mention every single attraction was named BANK OF AMERICA'S FARM LAND or something equally gross. The state fair was probably 1000 times better in 1941!!
ReplyDeleteThese are fun. I like how sort of gritty they are compared to your standard fair pictures.
ReplyDeleteoh how I miss summer time!

These are great. I love looking at the details like facial expressions and how people are interacting with each other.
ReplyDeleteI always wonder what people are thinking when I see photos like these -- not posed or set up like a portrait, so it was literally a little snippet of time captured in these images.
ReplyDeletewhat amazing photographs!
ReplyDeletegorgeous photos!
ReplyDeleteLove the vintage ambient! ;P
