I have a difficult time summing up or describing my favorite films (mostly I just want to say ridiculous quotes from them that make no sense out of context). So let me just say: Charade is witty, funny, suspenseful, and features Audrey Hepburn in an enviable wardrobe (she even has Louis Vuitton luggage). Cary Grant is at his most charming and mysterious; is he a "truthful white-foot?" The suspenseful quality of this film is so superb that it is often mistaken as a Hitchcock, although it is actually directed by Stanley Donen. It's a wonderful ride from beginning to end with many entertaining twists and turns.

"I already know an awful lot of people and until one of them dies I can't possibly meet anyone else."
Love love love!
ReplyDeleteI watched this again and it is much better when you pay full attention.
i envy Audrey Hepburn's wardrobe in most of her films. Amazing!
My favorite use of Luis Vuitton luggage in a film is the collaboration with Marc Jacobs and Eric Anderson in The Darjeeling Limited. And they just leave it all there in the end!
I love Charade! But I love any movie that Audrey is in.
ReplyDeleteOh I love this film! The costumes and the intrigue, not to mention the humor and chemistry between Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant! I really like the quotes too!
ReplyDeleteGrant: You should see your face!
Hepburn: What's wrong with it?
Grant: It's lovely.
This is probably my favorite Audrey Hepburn film!
i love this movie....and how can you not love Audrey

This is one of my favourites hepburn movies.
ReplyDeleteyou're right, totally enviable wardrobe.
Kisses!
This movie definitely had flair to it. And I distinctly remember Regina's amazing LV luggage set.
ReplyDeleteI love that movie!.. and Audrey!
ReplyDeleteThe best Hitchcock movie that Hitchcock never made.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that many of the lines were reversed between Hepburn and Grant? I read that Cary Grant felt very uncomfortable with all the flirting that his character did towards Audrey's character since Audrey was young enough to be his daughter. So the writers gave her all the flirtatious lines instead.
oooh I love this film so much!!!!! I think it's fairly underrated, but in a way, it's such a classic cary grant movie, marrying his charm and comical side perfectly. and audrey hepburn is a sweetie as always. up til a few months ago I thought it WAS a hitchcock, was so surprised to find out it wasn't. xxxx
ReplyDeleteoh i just adore this film. audrey just seems to have all these subtle facets, and this one kind of allowed me to realize that.
ReplyDeletegreat thanks for the reco! I'm always looking for old movies to see
ReplyDeleteAww, I love Charade. It's one of my favorites, too :)
ReplyDeleteAudrey is indeed fantastic and one of my style icons. I have yet to watch this one, but will have to add it to my list!
ReplyDeleteAudrey!So feminine,sweet and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteM y all encompassing love for Audrey Hepburn will never wane. I lose count how many times I have seen this film – good choice!
ReplyDeleteGood choice, Rebecca!
ReplyDeleteAnother one of my favorites is 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' with Marylin Monroe; I recently watched it on a plane journey and realised how good it was again!
I think old movies just get better with time, don't they? You've made me want to watch 'Charade' again (maybe I was fourteen the last time I watched it?) and I'll bet it will be even better this time around!
Have a super weekend,

ReplyDeleteI have to say that I really did not like Charade - but I love Audrey! 'How to Steal a Million' & 'Roman Holiday' are the best! I won't start on my dislike for Cary, though.... -__-
ReplyDeletep.s. I always want to quote movies, too, but none of the quotes make sense out of context. Except for John Hughes movies, I don't know why....

PS: I often use that "until one of them dies I can't possibly meet anyone else." quote. It's classic.
My favorite Audrey movie! :) Cary Grant has a little something to do with that.....
ReplyDeleteAny Audrey movie is a favorite of mine, but I love this one especially. Oh, Cary. :)
ReplyDeleteCharade is a such a fabulous film. I'm glad that you highlighted it!
ReplyDeleteI'm a Audrey fan, but have yet to watch Charade. Gasp! Must rent it ASAP. :P
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite movies. When I wear short-sleeved coats with long gloves, I think of this movie. Seems a weird thing, as this style wasn't so exclusive to this particular film, but it just turned out that way. :P
