A good amount of mental debate went into the purchase of this dress. On one hand: it was vintage, blue, adorable, and on sale for less than $10. On the other hand: it was too adorable, as in something a child would wear. This went on for quite awhile and then I decided to choose the dress. I marched up to the cash register with it in hand, moving quickly before I could talk myself out of it. The lady checking me out said it was "pretty" and asked if I was going to display it. When I replied that I intended to wear it, she gave me the oddest look...like, "are you crazy?" Which of course made me question the victor in my rigorous mental debate, but at that point it was too late and she was cautiously putting it into a bag and handing it over to me, dubious expression still intact on her face.

That dress is amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteThe back is adorable! I absolutely love it, you were definitely right to buy it :]
ReplyDeleteNikki
I love it!
ReplyDeleteYour surroundings seem quite appropriate for your dress!
ReplyDeleteWell, I think you look absolutely lovely. The primary colors say 'happy' more than anything. Enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteyou were definitely right to purchase this dress. it looks great.
ReplyDeleteI am likewise struggling with a "childlike" dress I thrifted some time ago. It is incredibly cute and in my favorite color, but every time I put it on I feel almost embarrassed to step out the door. But maybe one of these days I will get the courage to wear it out.
ReplyDeleteAnd your gifs are not silly. I mean, how often does one get to fly in the forest? (:
You look like an awesomer version of hansel and gretel.I personally love this!
ReplyDeleteThat's an adorable dress! It is so you! We shouldn't let other people tell us what to wear and what not to wear!
ReplyDeleteThat is the loveliest dress ever!! It looks great with the red tights too!
ReplyDeleteFrom Carys of La Ville Inconnue
The dress is amazing! Do not doubt it. The peter pan collar, button-up back and brilliant color makes it a perfect dress and great vintage find.
ReplyDeletei love the gif!!! and the tights and the dress! awesome
ReplyDeleteFor less than ten, how could you leave it behind! It was destined. Adorable!
ReplyDeleteNice work on following through and not listening to doubt! Looks great1
ReplyDeleteI love your animated gifs. I think I must come on your blog and tell you that WAY too much, but I will keep saying it cause they are so fun, Rebecca! <33
ReplyDeletei would have purchased it too if i could fit into it! no doubt a great buy!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, that dress is incredible! I'm glad you listened to your instinct and bought it anyway :)
ReplyDeleteoh i think it is just all super sorts of adorable and if i had found it, i'd wear the heck out of it!
ReplyDeleteI love how you rocked this dress with red tights - I don't think it looks too childish from how it looks in the photos.
ReplyDeleteAhh, It's adorable (and what a steal)! I'd say you've certainly made the right choice (and a proper number of girls jealous) in purchasing the dress!
ReplyDeletexo
that dress is absolutely darling on you!!! i think it fits you and your style well!! :D it would be such a shame if you just end up displaying that, what was that cashier thinking!? hahaha!
ReplyDeleteAnimated Confessions
You look supercute and playful. The dress is gorgeous and suits you and your style well, though most people likely wouldn't be able to pull it off. Looks fab! I'm glad you didn't heed the saleslady. :)
ReplyDeletePolitely damn that cashier and any other doubters to hell! If the dress fits and makes you feel fabulous, then why on earth not?? You look positively adorable in taht Heidi-esque dress. The gif is also too cute-- you're dancing on air!

Don't grow up as long as you can avoid it, I say :D You look so precious! Your gifs are the best!
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous in it! It doesn't matter what people may think about what we are wearing, or at least that's what I think.
ReplyDeleteGreat find. You must be tiny to fit into it!
ReplyDeleteThat dress was worth it! I wish I could wear things like that, but alas my shoulders are way too large. You look adorable, and who cares about being taken "seriously"

What a lovely dress! It really suits you. I love the fun gif too. You look like a fairy :)

This dress is just beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the tights too
Char x
The dress looks absolutely adorable on you and yes it makes you look a bit younger... but I never see kids wearing such dresses and you can look old your whole life, enjoy being young... :)
ReplyDeleteoh no, it is such a good thing that you bought it! it's so beautiful! i never have any luck - i never find anything like this on my hunts. don't worry about looking young - we're only young once!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the right choice to buy. The lady at the cash register must have been crazy.
ReplyDeleteYou totally pulled off this dress! It looks great! It may have come off childish if worn with mary janes and pigtails, but you wore it well and matured the look with just the right accessories!! Kudos for looking fabulous in vintage!
ReplyDeleteI have a dress sitting in the back of my closet that I constantly go back and forth on. It's a white, vintage child's dress, with some beautiful embroidery and tucked bodice, back buttoning too. It just fits me, but I worry it makes me look too young! So two years later it still goes between the "sell" and "keep" piles. haha.
ReplyDeleteI think you've done a great job at making this dress work for someone a bit older than 10! ;) The bright tights and sophisticated flats really help--it doesn't come off as overly childish. Just sweet and pretty! Have confidence--I think you made the right choice buying it! :)

I LOVE IT! It looks great on you. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, this dress looks great and not in the least childish.
ReplyDeleteSo what exactly make it childish the back buttoning, which is making a strong comeback right now? The short skirt which is not at all short by modern terms? The cross stitch which is also quite folky? In my book this adds to not a childish dress at all.
And why should anyone bother to buy dresses if not to wear them??? Strange concept.
gah! i love it! it is too cute for words and it looks perfect on you :)
ReplyDeletethis dress is absolutely adorable and fits you like a glove. kudos to you for going ahead and scooping it up!
ReplyDeleteReally pretty blue dress and i love your hair up like that.SarahD
ReplyDeleteThat dress is great. I and I would definitely wear it also. But then again, I tend to wear age inappropriate items all the time.
ReplyDeletewell i think it's really cute! i would wear it, too!

You absolutely made the right choice, this dress is just awesome :o) Perfect fit!
ReplyDeleteOk, no. You were absolutely right in buying this dress. If I'd had the opportunity, I would have snatched it up right from under you. I hope you get about 150 more comments telling you that this dress is perfect, no matter what age you are.
ReplyDeleteIt's cute, and the way you styled it matures it up to your level perfectly.
Such a good choice, looks so lovely on you!!! x
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is to die for!!!! So lovely!

ARGHHHH the adorableness is painful!!! And with the red tights and winklepickers, it doesn't look too twee at all! I think the embroidery on it is nice and simple, and creates great lines on you.
ReplyDeleteAaaah animation is so sweet!)))
ReplyDeleteyou are darling!

and check out my new project - Story of my Clothes
adorable pictures!!
ReplyDeleteIt is really NOT too twee. Though if you removed the red tights, you could probably "age it up" a little. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got the dress, it's so pretty! And it really isn't THAT young looking, I mean, maybe if it was pink, but the darker color is fine. :)
ReplyDeleteI totally have a really old dress from the children's place that I still wear (as a tunic though-- I am way too tall for it to be a dress now lol)
Wow, what a gorgeous find! I love the bold colors, and how you paired it with those lovely tights!
ReplyDeleteit is perfect! its so lovely, for 10 dollars you would have been crazy not to get it! haha the sales lady... if we all dressed like grown-ups all the times wed all be bored... so i think you were definitely right to buy it!
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful on you, and it doesn't make you look young, just like some-one who is very happy about life :) You made the right choice in buying it, I love your shoes as well by the way

i'm glad you made the purchase. not only does it fit you sooo well, but i know if that lady has every seen your blog, she'd know that if anyone to pull it off, it would be you.
ReplyDeleteYour gif strangely reminds me of Peter Pan, love the dress.
ReplyDeleteWas definitely a good choice!! this dress is gorgeous *.*
ReplyDeletexoxo
Oh goodness, that dress is amazing. The tights go great with it.
ReplyDeleteI think the dress looks amazing on you! I love your tights pairing... the red... and your teal tights... they always add something extra to your outfit.
ReplyDeleteYou look so pretty in this dress! Absolutely adorable! I love it (and that gif!)! But, I know how you feel. I struggle with looking too young, as well.
ReplyDeletelove this outfit!! it's great :)
ReplyDeleteHey Rebecca,
ReplyDeleteI remember you writing of your concerns of looking age-appropriate before. As someone who's also quite petite and younger-looking, I know how you feel. That said, I believe one of the biggest advantages to being a girl and living in this decade are that you can look one way one day, and be completely different the next. There are so many style options that we don't have to limit ourselves. This dress is absolutely gorgeous and compliments you beautifully. So why not look youthful and carefree today, and be all-business tomorrow? We can have it all! ;D
Xo,
Sarz
J'aime beaucoup votre blog et votre style...

this look is adorable! you look like a doll. i love that you paired red tights with that dress :)
ReplyDeleteHah! That's hilarious. I totally would've bought this dress instantaneously. So so so adorable. The collar, the detailing on the back, the cross stitching. Too cute!
ReplyDeleteIt's so you, and you rock it!
I sometimes go through the same thing but I think that this was a perfect buy and whether it was originally for a child it really doesn't matter. I love it!!
ReplyDeleteWow Rebecca the dress is really pretty! I would love to wear children's clothes! Like it so much!:)
ReplyDeleteSimone's Closet
Very cute dress! I know what you mean though, I have these debates in my head all of the time. But you know what - you've got to mix it up and somedays I feel like dressing like I'm 5. People can need to just deal with it! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, and that gif... is magical!haha
That dress is gorgeous! So want to steal it from you :P and that woman is wrong. So, so wrong.
ReplyDeletehttp://itscohen.blogspot.com/
You are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLove the dress! x
ReplyDeleteUmm..yes. That dress is much too young for you. Now hurry and post it in your shop so that I may buy it! :x I think you're adorable. In a classy lady-like way of course.
ReplyDeletethat dress is gorgeous, i don't think i could have passed it up, either!
ReplyDeleteI think the dress is adorable, I would totally wear it so I don't see why anyone would be shocked at the idea. I love how you paired it with the red tights too.
ReplyDeleteI love this dress and for the record, you can never be too adorable :) I also have a weakness for girlie silhouettes like this one that can look young. I can relate to your frustration about looking too young tho - I was recently on a plane and the flight attendant asked me if I was traveling alone and how old I was...I'm 24. Super cute, tho!
ReplyDeletexoxo, Ashley
Awesome outfit. Love your gif!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is the best dress I've ever seen and it fits you amazingly. You definitely made the right choice.
ReplyDeleteHey there I feel you. I'm 23 and have that so-called younger look, and smaller size of everything, that successfully make look like 15. I have tried my best to dress my age but every once in a while, I'd fall for a colorful outfit with immature details that could degrade my age even more but I'd buy it anyway because I just love it.
ReplyDeleteSometimes you wish you were taller or looked more mature. But most of the times you're just feeling grateful for being this petite ;)
And of course,
ReplyDeleteThat dress is gorgeously adorable!
That dress is wicked cute. Glad you bought it. Who cares what the shop girl said, isn't that against the rules of sales associate-ship, anyways?
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this dress, it looks adorable on you! Where's the fun in dressing your age, anyway?
ReplyDeleteyou can pull it off. i love it a lot.
ReplyDeleteSo adorable! Love the shade of blue, the red detail of the dress and the cute collar!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely sugary sweet adorable, but you wear it well! It's not a purchase I think you should regret in the least. Silly cash register ladies and their opinions - this happens to me quite a bit, too when I go on buying excursions for my shop.
ReplyDeleteahhh, i love the dress! it looks great on you! glad you bought it!
ReplyDeletejust came across your blog..<3
ReplyDeleteI agree...that's a great dress! something I would definitely snap up, especially for under $10.
I often have the problem of buying too many "little girl" dresses also, but I just figure that we may as well wear it while we can! We won't be able to pull this off in 10 years...
well...you just look darling my dear! love the dress.
ReplyDeletei started following you on twitter xo

I does look a bit 'cutesy' but I love it so so much! This is one of my favourite outfits I've seen on your blog as of late. And under ten dollars? How can you say no to that. I've noticed those shoes lately too & I'm so jealous!
ReplyDeleteThis dress is so adorable and looks great on you. You definitely made the right decision by buying it. I have a small collection of little girl's dresses that I wear and I always get compliments on them.
ReplyDeleteoh i really love it, it suits you so well. i think you should just rely on your own taste :-)
ReplyDeleteby far my favourite post/dress. The gif gave me a chuckle and certainly a refreshing piece exemplifying the inner impulse to dress in little peter pan collars and high waisted dresses that have embroidery that looks like a dirndl :)
ReplyDeleteI love love love this dress! I really like the hand embroidery detail on it. The gif image is also so great!

ohhhh man. this dress is INSANELY perfect! definitely a good call rebecca. mos defs.
ReplyDeleteyou look like gretel from hansel and gretel, prancing down the woodsy path... to a house made of candy... that fairytale is actually really creepy.
You look absolutely adorable, and I can't believe it cost under $10!! Perfect fit and such a wonderful combination with the red tights.

Bah, who needs to be taken seriously in this day and age? It's cute, whatever.
ReplyDeleteAMAZING.
ReplyDeleteI think that dress is amazing! It's looks awesome on you!!
ReplyDeletePERFECTION...thank you doll for wearing this. my absolute favorite on your blog (so far).
ReplyDeleteAhhh what do those counter ladies know anyway :P
ReplyDeleteIt looks absolutely fabulous and I'm far tooo in love with your shoes for my own health
Amazing outfit and the most beautiful setting
It's so adorable and looks amazing on you, so no worries =]
ReplyDeleteANd that gif...is perfection.
That dress is so CUTE. Honestly, you can pull it off - you're little and adorable enough to work it (and it really goes with the red tights!). I'm nearly 28 now and I constantly have mutton-dressed-as-lamb fears (I wore a sundress with a t-shirt in a pinny style today, concerning!). But you definitely aren't mutton.
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE the gif.
Cutest dress ever.
ReplyDeleteI love the huge contrast between the red and the blue!

Your outfits/photos always remind me of fairytales. :)
ReplyDeleteThat dress is amazing! Good choice in buying it, definitely.
ReplyDeleteI really love the shoes you're wearing with this dress. I was rather against these type of menswear-inspired shoes when they started popping recently, but I'm starting to come around. It's too bad these are vintage, if they weren't I might have to track some down for myself.
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable indeed. And I frequently have the same dilemma. It's just so much fun to dress like a little doll! ;)
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you could fly!!!
ReplyDeletelucky!

I think, dubious saleslady looks or not, that this dress looks so cute on you!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite vintage shop in Minneapolis had a rack for children's clothes. I'd always go in and peek at the things on it, because they were always cheaper than the adult clothes, and I always would find adorable dresses for little girls that would fit me! Once I walked out of the dressing room to look in the long mirror and the owner couldn't stop asking me how I fit in the dress! I say petite girls should take advantage of all the lovely vintage dresses we can fit in! You look lovely; I WANT this dress!!! Love, Annie.
ReplyDeletei really like it! if modcloth sold something similar i don't thinki it would be a problem, i love the stitching and the hair bun helps make it a bit 'older' too, a great trick xx
ReplyDeleteYou have this amazing way of making everything look perfect on you. I love the dress, especially with those red tights, but I know that I wouldn't look nearly half as good in it as you do :D
ReplyDeleteim so glad you bought it, its fantastic! really made for you!
