I finally wore my sheer blouse without layering a dress on top. I even dared to go without a tank underneath, but I have to say I was only willing to do this because it was a day I wouldn't interact with people. It makes me self-conscious and won't become a staple, but fashion should be fun and I don't want to be afraid to try almost any look at least once. Part of me thinks sheer blouses don't belong in real life, but another part of me wonders why. Ultimately, I refuse to be completely locked in my comfort zone and afraid to try things because of what others may think. We have enough laws and restrictions upon us to let fashion be another thing dominated by rules and regulations.

I have a sheer blouse too, but I always wear something else underneath it, I think I'm a bit of a wuss! It really does look lovely on you, but I understand why you wouldn't want to wear it too publicly...

I have the same dilemma. Mine is awkwardly compounded by the fact that my mammaries often seem to creep out of the top of the cup. I don't think that moment needs to be made public by a sheer blouse (as it apparently does through a blog comment.)
ReplyDeleteI love the white heels! nice pop!
ReplyDeleteThough sheer, your blouse is still quite demure. Maybe layer it over a pretty camisole for a look that feels more modest to you?
ReplyDeleteI am in love with those shoes! Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYou look great! This may be one of my favorite looks you've posted. Don't be embarrassed.
ReplyDeleteYou look very pretty, as always!
ReplyDeleteThe blouse is really nice. I think it's good to go outside your comfort zone sometimes! :) Plus, pairing it with a black bra underneath makes it a lot more subtle, especially compared to the neon&sheer trend that's popular right now!
Way to push yourself! I, too, hesitate from wearing sheer blouses without something under or over it, but I always admire the bold girls who rock it like you did here! You look so chic; the bun is perfect for this look. I have to ask: do you paint your own nails? They always look amazing!

Love this! It's good to be modest, but I completely agree, you should try things out of your comfort zone!

I have a sheer blouse like yours also and face the same problem, but I guess you have to try things once to see if you like it or not! I don't know why you wouldn't wear it like this, it looks oh so lovely!
ReplyDelete:)
xxxx
i love your shoes!!
ReplyDeleteI love all of this! It is nice to take risks from time to time :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful as always.
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right about the rules part. I have a black sheer blouse that I always layer under, but it's so hot here, tomorrow it's coming out with just a bandeau bra underneath. :)
Thanks for the inspiration.
Rebecca, I truly love everything about this outfit, and I think it's so awesome how you've been stepping out of your comfort zone lately. I am always so scared to try new things!
ReplyDeleteThe topknot, the sheer blouse, the lacy skirt, the nailpolish, and the pretty pumps are all so lovely. I don't know if I would dare to wear a sheer blouse (but that's also because I'm in Bangladesh at the moment, where 90% of the visible population is male... and they don't even attempt to cover up stares).
In any case, you look amazing! :)

My first thought was: hullo sexy.
ReplyDeleteYou look good. Classy, actually. I've always wanted to try this look, but I am pretty positive that I wouldn't be able to make it look classy.
But you look perfect. Maybe I will try it... Now look what you've started! ;-)
ooh, i really like the play between the sheer blouse, bare legs, and nude shoes! how very demure.

ReplyDeleteI think that this is one of your best outfits. It is something different from what you usually wear, but I like it. Romantic lace and bow on your blouse.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I want not to care what others think about me, but in a small town (like mine) it is almost impossible.
Love ur black outfit ^^
ReplyDeleteespecially the skirt, the oxford shoes is totally awesome too
and what a cute nail polish :)

its nice, it is a little daring but you pulled it off, I wonder how it would be with a creme colored bra though... would it be too weird?
ReplyDelete=D

i love that skirt so much! you look great :)
ReplyDeleteI have a sheer shirt too but I always wear something underneath it. I can't imagine myself wearing it any other way to be honest.
ReplyDeleteYou on the otherhand look great and I totally understand why you were concious of wearing it on a day where you wouldn't see many people!
looooove the nails
ReplyDeletei am also loving your nails & also think you really suit the high bun!
ReplyDeleteYves Saint Laurent would be proud. I was just at the exhibit in Paris and there was a section devoted to transparency.
ReplyDeletethis is such a sweet little outfit! I know what you mean about sheer things though. I have a couple of items and I never know how to wear them!
ReplyDeleteby the way, I loooove that nail color!
Lovely.;) Your look is so pretty;)
ReplyDeleteOooh, I adore this! I think this is THE best way I've seen this trend pulled off - super classy. <3
ReplyDeletePLASTIC LETTERS
I completely agree with you and feel the same thing about donning a sheer blouse. However, I think black looks better than a lighter sheer blouse and you look lovely. Very classy.

I just love that blouse, sexy in an extremely elegant way.
ReplyDeleteAhh it really does look like a dress, they compliment each other perfectly
ReplyDeleteEverything about this outfit is stunning, and your nails are gorgeeeeous
Wow...this outfit is stunning.
ReplyDeleteI have a sheer blouse, too, and I go through the same dilemma. But this outfit is marvelous. It looks very chic!
ReplyDeletepale bluebird
when i saw the JC jewelry lookbook i noticed you were in a sheer blouse! i think it's a bold for you-- it's funny how easily/effortlessly you transition from little girl vintage dresses to sheer blouses in the daytime!
ReplyDeleteLove the outfit! x
ReplyDeleteKind of interesting how interacting with people puts you off wearing a sheer blouse but posting on a blog or in a lookbook, probably seen by a lot more people, doesn't. (Observation, not meant to be snarky, although I know it could be read that way)
ReplyDelete@chicspace
@Chicspace/Anonymous, no I totally agree. It's one of the paradoxes of the web. I think it's that I don't have to see/hear people's reactions here and I'm controlling my image. When I'm walking down the street I don't control angles or presentation and I also have to feel the pressure of people's eyes. On the web I don't feel like people are actually looking at me...
ReplyDeletei thinkk u look greatt!! :D it's classyy n chicc:)) anwayy,, love ur nail polish !!
ReplyDeletexoxo
I absolutely love that necklace!
ReplyDeleteI can honestly say I think this is one of your best looks ever! And that necklace is pure awesomeness!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite looks! It's so well put together and that sheer blouse makes this romantic look a bit edgy! Also love those heels! ^.^
ReplyDeleteRebecca,
ReplyDeleteI get it (and thanks for responding to my comment :) ). It's a different kind of reaction to respond in person or even by voice (phone) than it is electronically/by written word.
I love the look and love that you're changing up things.
@chicspace
I have been dying to find a pair of nude heels similar to your and now these gorgeous photos have only made me want them more!
ReplyDeleteI completely understand about the sheer blouse ~ I have a few and I never wear them without a tank top or singlet underneath. I guess I feel like I should keep my 'treasures' for myself and my DH!
xox,
b. of Depict This!
The sheer is daring, and it worked out marvelously. The topknot is fantastic too.
ReplyDelete-indigo
Oh.... HoW I LoVe YoUr ShOeS....
ReplyDeletei love this--since the skirt is so high waisted its only SLIGHTLY risque :) i say try it for a date night next!
ReplyDeleteI think this looks cute and still somehow conservative. It's a fine line, but I think you balance any "risque-ness" quite gracefully. :) I've been known (much to my mother's dismay) to let a little lace from a bra or bralette peek out from a lowcut tank, cardigan or slip dress... is that so wrong? :P I think sexy can still be demure. Thanks for being brave and sharing this look!
