Rugged And Without Shores

the clothes horse, fashion, style, jeffrey campbell, wooden booties, lulus, retro, rugged, anorakI'm really enjoying slightly more rugged looks at the moment. I say slightly, because my formula of a dress, tights, and (oftentimes) lace-up shoes is essentially the same as always. Still, it's nice to feel a little less fussy, even if dressier pieces don't really stop me from climbing trees or exploring old military bunkers! I suppose in some ways this style is a more accurate externalization of my interests than a frilly frock. I'm not a rough-and-tumble tomboy, but you are much more likely to find me wandering about a secluded spot alone than at a party or some other similar "appropriate" place for a pretty dress.

  2. I am so jealous of you for having those boots! I was lusting over them with the fur top but I chose some flat ones (much more sensible for clumsy me!) and cheaper ones instead, but I still love them a lot =D

  3. Rummaging around unexpected places beats tea party shots any day. I love that you don't let heels and a dress prevent you from climbing up a tree to get a good shot. I wish I had more secluded places to get shots at aside from my living room, but living in ny is stressful as far as that goes. There is always people everywhere I go, and getting stares for taking pictures of yourself can be quite annoying. I tried and failed miserably haha.

Anywho, I love this outfit on you!

  5. I love this look. I find myself experiencing a similar process while getting dressed in the morning. I'm also most comfortable in a uniform of dress, tights and booties...Playing with that formula feels daring and fun, but still very comfortable to me.
And can I just say that your hair is absolutely gorgeous?
    Gorgeous.
I'm presently debating whether or not to chop off my long wavy hair in favor of an "elegant, feminine pixie" (I have visions of Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday and a shaggier Jean Seberg dancing in my head)...I go back and forth on this decision nearly daily. But your pretty hair just swung the pendulum towards "keep long locks," at least for another day or so.

  6. These JC boots are such a nice alternative to the Litas I've been seeing. Those Litas feel like a freakish hybrid of boxer shoes, disco fever and clown shoes. I don't know why they're so abundant in the Blogosphere.

The anorak is amazing... looks comfy, and the tights are so subtly edgy.

  8. Though I usually favor either stark neutrals or bright colors, I'm starting to warm up (quite literally) to my khaki jacket for this fall as well. I think you're pulling off the more rugged look nicely!

And those JC booties-- oh man. The shape of that heel is just PERFECT and dare I say, doesn't look too skyscraper-nosebleed high? (though I know some women would prefer it that way)

  17. wow, your hair looks really great! and your outfit seems totally comfy and cool, perfect for this dreadful weather that most of northern europe seems to be experiencing, ugh! it's really hard finding the perfect balance between comfy and cute in this situation, but you manage to do so perfectly!

  18. The anorak is lovely! I like how it works really well with dresses yet it's not too girly and can be worn with anything. I would love one of my own. Too bad it's already too cold for it around here.

  19. Lovely outfit. I've been looking for an anorak just like that for when it starts to rain here in Rhode Island. I'm a So Cal girl so I really don't have anything for the rain even though I've been going to school here for two years, haha. :)
    Loving the shoes too.

  20. I really do like the more rugged look on you. I think it's a good example of experimenting with your style without going...too crazy. And the juxtaposition of the anorak and the girly dress is just absolutely lovely in general.
