Lately, I am unable to venture outside during the daylight hours without some kindly stranger informing of the value of sunscreen. I suppose that is the burden I carry for being pale and approachable-looking. As my mother (generously) pointed out, the double braids did not help matters on this day by making me appear quite young (and in need of guidance?). Oh well, sometimes I get rather tired of trying to look my age and decide to explore different hairstyles. In the end, I had a nice time at the beach and did not walk away with a sunburn!

Welcome to my little blog that blends a bit of nature, fashion, wanderings, and books in this dusty corner of the Internet. I hope you find it a moment of quiet in the wild today.

You kinda look like pippi longstocking with your hair like this! lol anyway, love the dress! :)
ReplyDeletehahahaha cuuute! how old are you anyway?

Love the hat with that dress...for some reason those hats never looked good on me. I just bought a white dress at the Salvation Army Thrift here..maybe I should recreate this outfit this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI think you look really cute!

Ha, I get that from strangers, too, and I'm approaching 30! I think being short also has something to do with looking deceptively young to people.
ReplyDeleteLove the composition and colors in these. I'm totally coveting that dress; it looks super comfortable.
That white dress is adorable. I love the denim jacket and cute hat with it. It's pretty strange that some guy just randomly started preaching to you about sunscreen - although what he said is true. But most pale people know they should be wearing sunscreen, right? haha
ReplyDeleteAside from how darling you look (I have a very similar dress!), I absolutely love this post. Kind-hearted folks approach me quite often about the dangers of the sun or make teasing, yet kind, remarks about my pale complexion! I look very, very young (my little brother is often assumed to be a twin!), so I can relate.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're doing well! Your outfits lately have been inspiring me so much. In the past, I felt like I had to wear tons of layers to be fashionable (as little sense as that makes), and you're still layering, lightly, for the summer. Love your looks AND your face. ;)
xo
HOW CUTE !!

I'm 29. No one assumes I'm my age, ever. Regardless of how I do my hair, how intelligently I speak, or what kind of shoes I wear.
ReplyDeleteThe nature of humans gives us some sort of inherent need to tell others what to do.
I agree about the value of sunscreen, especially for my white counterparts, but just because you look young doesn't give people the right to approach you and tell you what to do. That's silly. Also, what makes them assume you don't wear any? You don't have to cover up to have sun protection! Clothes, at best have like SPF 8! Silly, silly, silly humans.

Mae Lu @ thereafterish.!
@Mae Lu, Yep & I'm always amused when people tell me b/c I am pale & I'm outdoors. Do they think I would still be pale if I DIDN'T wear sunscreen? The fact that I am still pale should be proof that I take care of my skin.
ReplyDeleteThe age thing is, I think sometimes a person's parental instincts come out. Like, "oh that child needs some adult guidance!" Which is obnoxious. It's also being small & female. I don't think people give advice to young men the way they do to young women...but that subject is a real can of worms I prefer to not open!
i am a ginger and have really pale skin, so if there isn't someone telling my to wear sunscreen there is someone asking me why i never go outside on the account that i am so pale. oh well.
ReplyDeleteI love your hair! The braids look so cute =) Don't worry, I don't look my age either..

soooo cuteeee
ReplyDeleteOh man, you make me long for summer and the beach!! I'm counting down the days (even though I've just begun winter)...
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I love this dress.
Just tell people like him that it's ok - america has an ozone layer. (Australia doesn't ... so no matter what colour you are here everyone HAS to wear it!!)
ReplyDeleteI'd comment on how cool you are but everyone else has already pointed that out!!
I get the opposite because I'm so pale- people tell me to go outside and "get some sun." as if I never leave my apartment and this is why I am fair skinned.
ReplyDeletethere's definitely downsides to being a girl who looks young and likes to dress up. if I have one more person comment on me wearing heels in the daytime, or how cold I must be in tights (in the winter), I'm going to start leaving the house undercover- as in, jeans and hoodies.
Love your tattoos peaking out the back of your dress! xx
ReplyDeleteAww you look adorable with that hairstyle :) I'm so jealous that you get to have summer right now!
ReplyDeleteYou look so etherial in white!
