Its Memory Can Last A Lifetime

This cardigan is part of my school uniform from the single year I spent in private school; it's the only piece of the silly costume we had to wear on a daily basis that I kept. It's unraveling a bit and it clearly never fit me properly, but I still find it infinitely comforting to wear. It's funny how some pieces stick in your wardrobe. I'm tempted to (fix the hem and) add elbow patches to it. Fall weather doesn't really excite me the way it does other people, but I do delight in cozy sweaters.

  2. You'd never know that this was part of your school uniform. My school's emblem was on all our cardigans and blazers. I gave away all my uniforms after I graduated. The "school girl" look was in for a time and people were telling me I should've kept my plaid skirts. Um, no thanks.

  4. I am officially obsessed with that dress and Family Affairs in general. I had never heard of them, and I now want every single piece in all their collections.

How does that dress fit? I'm always between a medium and large...

  5. That looks like a really cozy sweater! :) Would love to see what the whole uniform looked like.

  6. @Erin, hm, family affairs usually runs true to size, but small in the bust. so, this dress while a loose tent-shape, is still cut somewhat small under the arms. if you've got a larger chest, size up, if your chest isn't large then a medium should be fine.

  7. @Hailey, http://theclothes.blogspot.com/2010/10/what-goes-around-comes-around.html the only change in the uniform is now the skirts come to the knee and emblem socks are required instead of stockings (I'm not exaggerating in the slightest)

  9. I love the combination of the 'evening wear' velvet and the slouchy cardigan...it looks like you're sneaking home after a wonderfully romantic dinner in a borrowed cardigan..love it!

  13. For someone not really into fall, you make this amazing velvet rust dress look phenomenal. Isn't it funny the way we hold on to certain clothes forever?

  14. i like the outfit!
i specifically like how the lacy bra complemented the dress. and it makes the dress less showy. i think the cardigan fits just fine. :)

  17. I love that heel, it's adorable! I'm not a super fan of the dress, the hem looks accidental and bad, (gah I'm sorry I make clothes) Lovely pictures and a great post!

  18. I am one of those people that gets giddy over fall weather. Something about that crispness in the air, the layers of soft cozy clothes, warm food. Fall is just my favorite time of year.

  20. Love the old school uniform cardigan! I'm so envious of the school uniforms in your country. Singapore is so hot, we can't have cardigan like these.

  21. I love the swirly pic! Whimsically sexy and more connected to the viewer than many of your photos (though they are all fantastic).

  22. @ftashion, the cardigan was only for use on some days, because it was actually my uniform in Hawaii where the coolest it got was 70F. Certainly not as hot as Singapore, but the cardigan was still a nice option on days when I had a cold. :)

  24. I have a similar relationship to my uniform ties. They weren't mandatory at my school, least not every day, but on special occasions we were to wear them and 'dress the part'! Sometimes I wear them, sometimes I cringe at how I lamented them, but I can't bear to toss them aside. Funny how that goes.

Aside, that dress is such a dream. Velvet and mustard were made for one another.
