There's something quite classic about a plaid dress and a (faux) leather jacket; it's an oft-repeated combination but as with many popular things, there's a reason for it. It's such an easy combination and nearly always looks good--a tougher jacket is the perfect counter-balance to a preppy or more classic plaid. That sort of balance is how I like things. I don't want to interpret vintage pieces too literally or style a frilly dress in a very saccharine manner, although I still haven't managed to look completely edgy yet...maybe one day.

Love the Rachel Antonoff dress! I'm kind of obsessed with her right now.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress. And I agree with you about trying to strike a balance between looks and not fall into any depth of cliche when styling. Somehow you always find the perfect line to walk in those regards.

ReplyDeleteSuch a great combo my dear! And your hair is looking incredible, by the way!

I'm so excited to have discovered your blog! You've got some really wonderful photographs and outfit combo inspiration.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could look edgy if you weren't so freakishly cute! All silliness aside - I'm quite positive you could pull it off. From what I've observed it's all in the stance...
i completely agree with your description and styling suggestion.... juxtaposing soft and edgier elements make a look, to speak plainly, just more interesting and fun!

I love this look! I especially love the dress! I have been pining for it since I first saw it! Then when Zooey Deschanel wore it I wanted it even more! My favorite part is the pockets! I love the combination of plaid and leather, it's such a classic!

I think you're edgy!! You chopped all your hair off and you have awesome style.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a perfect combination. I really love that jacket and your shoes are fantastic too. You look great, as always!
ReplyDeleteI love the draped collar of that jacket, and the plaid dress looks so good.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and your taste! I'm a longtime lurker, but have never before posted a comment. I adore that you chose a Robert Frost line to title this post! I have to point out that the line is, "The woods are lovely, dark and deep," without a comma after dark. Minor, but I'm a literature nerd, and this is a much-discussed piece of punctuation in the American literary cannon. Anyway, I love the outfit and photography partnered with the Frost line you chose. Lovely indeed!
