Searching For Signs Of Fall

I keep looking for signs of fall beyond the pumpkin-flavored drinks my roommates seem so fond of. Every fallen leaf seems an indication of the colorful display to come. Every wilting flower of symbol of dying summer, even when the weather of humid days and languid nights seems to indicate no end to that season. I usually love summer and mourn its annual demise, but this year in Pennsylvania quite distant from the beaches I haunted in a more southern state, I am prepared for the season to come. I look forward to the sound of my footsteps on city streets being muffled by the crunch of leaves underneath. I am ready to endure the short days and longer nights in exchange for costumed house parties, frosty windows, and the cornucopia of baked goods fall always seems to produce. I am dressing as if fall was here already with pleated skirts, smart flats, and cardigans fit for any proper student.

Love the dress!! But I am not sure about the colour? (it looks to be light pink or peach, could be white but the lighting maybe throwing me off). Oh love your yesterday's post about Orla Kiely, but I find any outfit that includes white tights always seem schoolgirlish. I can not seem to find a way to wear white tights without feeling that I am 8 years old again (I retired mine). Its just one article of clothing that makes someone appear younger than they should. I honestly can not find a way a person can make a mature outfit with white tights. Its like wearing tights with sneakers, it looks childish. (sorry for the long spiel)

I LOVE you today's outfit. I have some kind of obsession with white dress and this one is particularly wonderful. You totally rock it with those black shoes and red purse.

@Anonymous, there's definitely tinting on the photos, so that might be why the color looks off. I guess white tights will make a person look younger--I keep thinking of the 60s and 70s, like a Twiggy in white (or pastel) tights. Certainly it's young, but that isn't necessarily childish-looking in my opinion. But really age dressing kind of bugs me; I mean we used to dress children as minature adults now we've got these separate wardrobes for each age, but why shouldn't we be allowed to "dress young?"

Hi Rebecca just wanted to answer your question "dress young?"
(Sorry this is going to be very long)

Everything changes and the more we get older the more our tastes evolves. When you first started your blog I am sure that your style has evolved into something more mature from then to present. Yes it is sad that we have to give up that small part of our childhood but by walking away from our past we show that we are getting more refine in our tastes. I think its okay to hold onto some things from the past, but white tights or bobby socks is something that should should be stored away with childhood memories. 5 years ago I was going through a bright coloured tights phase loved wearing them. Ever heard of welovecolors? I was so much in entranced with their tights, I bought 10 pairs in a year. I loved to make up outfits to go with them but after awhile I got sick of them. They lot their appeal because I could only wear certain things with them. Maybe I became lazy not bothering to try to make something to work with my tights. But the realization kicked in that I could not see myself wearing neon blue tights on a date or to a evening function for work. It was to risky. So now I just own 5 pairs of tights black, charcoal, A dark grey, deep brown and a burgundy pair. I guess what it comes down to is being taken seriously and always your fashion expresses who you are. Here is a question when was the last time you wore white tights? For me it was 2 years ago for a Halloween costume.

That cardigan is so cute. The buttons and the way it is just the tiniest bit slouchy is great!

I kept almost buying that cardigan from Modcloth, but I never did...now I'm wishing I had! I love the chic simplicity (with a dose of whimsy) in this look. Definitely perfect for back-to-school...even for those of us that have left those days behind :)
