Call Me Maybe

It's back to the season of climbing trees and skinning knees. Every spring I'm reminded of Robert Frost's poem Birches which goes, "So was I once myself a swinger of birches; And so I dream of going back to be. It's when I'm weary of considerations, And life is too much like a pathless wood." Which also calls to my mind the C.S. Lewis quote, "Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again." Both just resonate with me; this idea of middling years when you feel too old or cool for the books of your childhood or the habits and behaviors that might mark you as too tomboyish. I won't linger on the motivations that drive us to abandon certain things for a period of time--I just relish the idea that we can return to a childlike enthusiasm at some point...
