Bonjour Tristesse

While I do find the excess of French words and phrases on tees right now a bit cliche, I couldn't resist this particular knit since this phrase is also the title of one of my favorite Jean Seberg films. Bonjour Tristesse is an absolutely stunning movie (with a covetable costuming) and, like a few other famous Seberg films, a big style inspiration today often seen referenced in editorials and on runways. The phrase, which means "hello sadness" also seems apt as we hover on the cusp of autumn since it can be quite a moody season. As Hemingway put it, "you expected to be sad in the fall. Part of you died each year when the leaves fell from the trees and their branches were bare against the wind and the cold, wintery light..." The leaves change and fall, the days get shorter and colder, and cozy knits and blankets seem as much emotional shields as layers for physical warmth. I'm not feeling particularly moody myself right now; I'm anticipating all my favorite fall activities far too much to be downtrodden! But the season is making me covet more sweaters, tights, and berets! You can never have enough of those, no?
