Lately I've been bored with my beauty routine. I mean I've basically been doing the same makeup routine for what, 9 years now? I switch up my blush or eyeliner brand every now and then, but essentially it's the same look every day. The handy part is I can put on my makeup in no time at all. And while I still like this look, sometimes I wonder what another look might be like...bolder brows (I literally do nothing to them right now)? Or an attempt at contouring? Can you even contour when you're ridiculously pale? The thing for me is I never even started wearing makeup until I was in college and by then I already felt like it was a bit late for experimentation; I was trying to learn how to apply foundation evenly and not stick myself in the eye with my mascara wand while I felt like many of my classmates looked like glamour queens in comparison! So once I got the knack of eyeliner and blush I never really looked back other than playing with the occasional lip color (mostly red though) or bit of glitter; it was just easier to keep repeating something that made me feel good than to try a lot of different looks when I had no idea what I was doing! I still struggle with a smoky eye! Anyway, maybe it's time to try something new...or maybe I'm just bored because it's been awhile since I dyed my hair a weird color or chopped it all off!
P.S. Use code "clotheshorse20" to get 20% off at Alice's Pig (where my lovely coat is from).

Do try something new! Maybe this Christmas? It's the perfect time to rock a new look!

I think your current makeup looks great. Never change a winning team!
ReplyDeleteAw thanks! :)
DeleteI think black mascara and black eyeliner don't flatter you. I'm a natural redhead and use dark brown mascara. I don't use eyeliner because it doesn't flatter the shape of my eyes. If you want to try something new, you may try to replace it with an eyepencil.:-)
ReplyDeleteHi Emanuela, Maybe it's b/c I'm not a natural redhead, but my eyelashes actually are black and I don't wear mascara most days but when I tried a brown mascara it looked odd on me b/c it was lighter than my natural lash color, so that's why I go with black eyeliner altho I know I'm pale so it is a bit high contrast! :p
DeleteI see. In this case the brown mascara is a no. So, as I said, you may try with eyepencil and eyeshadow (not necessariyl smokey eyes), using the colours you like (brown, rust, burnt orange). On youtube there are lots of tutorials, although in my case they have been quite useless. :-D
DeleteI think the black/pale contrast is lovely! It's a classic look, so I'd stick with it. Then again, this is coming from someone who is pale a rarely ever bothers with makeup other than basic eyeliner and mascara. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! And yes when I think of old Hollywood starlets (which are usually my beauty goals!) they were always very high contrast and glam--or Dita von Teese!
DeleteThere is a pressure sometimes to mix it up and try new trends but as someone who loves vintage, I usually come back to the winged eyeliner too! I don't really do contouring much either but emphasizing your eyebrows would be a great way of changing your look in a small way.
ReplyDeleteMy sisters a makeup artists and so living in the same house with her for 18 years helped me realize I could continue to improve with makeup & hair. It's always good to push yourself if you're feeling like you want to spice things up a bit. I personally know how much I love going on YouTube or Pinterest and figuring out how to do new things and it can be a nice challenge. However, if your want for change is born out of feeling pressured or insecure in your hair and makeup talents, then I think it's perfectly ok to keep your current makeup routine.
ReplyDeletePs.
I love your hair it's gorgeous. I'd be so sad if it changed. But it's absolutely you're call.
I have an extraordinarily simple makeup routine, but I gave up makeup for Lent this year and it helped me appreciate my bare face a bit more. When I went back to makeup, I started using a tinted brow gel and totally quit all eye makeup, except for maybe a bit of smudged dark brown eye liner when I'm feeling fancy. It's fun to hit refresh and try little things, but no need to go wild if what you do works for you!
ReplyDeleteI think what you are doing works for you, if its not broken don't fix it

I think your make-up, like your flaming red hair, is one of your 'trademarks', but that's no reason not to try something new! I'm probably not the best person to advise, as I actually wear hardly any make-up myself (I'd love to wear winged eyeliner for example, but I'm just too clumsy to draw it on!), but I agree that perhaps some more subtle colours that blend with your usual palette of autumnal shades might be worth exploring, just for fun!
ReplyDeleteI wish I dare experiment with my make-up but every time I try eye shadow or something like that, I look like a drag queen. I wouldn't even dare touch contouring! Don't let me put you off though - I'm your sure you're adept enough to try a new look!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures ❤
ReplyDeleteI love your makeup, but I also adore the idea of experimenting with it! Your question about pale people contouring is so valid, but Lunatick Cosmetic Labs has an amazing contour and blush palette that has shades that are so awesome for creating a more realistic shadow effect for pale skin alongside some blushes and bronze shades that warm it up nicely and look natural. You might try giving it a go!
ReplyDeleteOoh that sounds super good--will definitely be checking Lunatick Cosmetic Labs out. Sounds promising! Thanks!
DeleteCute! Mudar é bom. Mas vc fica linda com qualquer make. Eu queria pelo menos saber fazer eyeliner. Eu ja ficaria feliz.😆
