Around The House

I safely made it to my parents in Washington State yesterday--the easiest flight day I've ever had. Predictably, I woke up this morning to the sound of rain and big band music (it was quite disorientating). I have been to Washington State before (lived there for three years while I was in junior high), but my family being military we move every three years so it has been awhile since I have visited this green state. My parents moved here at the beginning of the summer and I have never seen this house before. It's gorgeous! Probably the nicest house the military has ever given us: wooden floors, tiled bathrooms, old radiators, tons of windows, a maid's room, etc.
You all like the Selby, right? Well, here is a peek into my current digs...

Say, what is that lurking amongst the peaches? Could it be the necklace from InYrFshn? Oooh, thanks so much! I love it.

  3. The house has a great retro vibe. I mean, come on, a bathroom sink with separate hot/cold taps? That's old school at its finest. :)

I like how you draped the necklace over a peach.

  22. Lovely Selby-esque photos!

I woke up to the sound of rain this morning (and thunder) too. At first I thought "oh yay I love the sound of thunder and the smell of rain". Then I thought "Oh, snap. I have to go out into the thunder and rain". NW weather is so random but I love it anyway (most of the time).

And I really like the print on your dress.

I love the wooden horses, also. I almost bought an antique wooden rocking horse a few weeks ago, but someone offered more for it :( Sad.

  55. The house is beautiful and it looks like you are really enjoying it. I'm glad to see that some of our military families are being treated well.

I get upset when I read in the news that our soldiers are often not receiving excellent salaries and medical treatment.

  58. Amazing. I just love houses in Washington. It's so interesting how houses are different and usually just so right for the area they're in. I was just in Washington and I couldn't help drawing conclusions between the house I was staying in and my parents' house in California. The Washington layout was very intentionally done, it seemed like, to utilize the available space. My parents' house, on the other hand, is very open and far less clever. Very interesting.

  59. Is that a spoon collection I spy? How very unusual! I have a collection and the matching rack that my grandmother started for me. I used to keep it in my dining room, but since I moved house it has been in storage. You place has a lovely "Miss Marple" vibe to it, (well that's the feeling I get from the photos anyway) I particularly like the way you've shown the lovely time worn pieces and hardware. It is something that is never successfully imitated and the new doesn't have quite the same voice. Thanks for the peak.
