“Every man can transform the world from one of monotony and drabness to one of excitement and adventure.” -Irving Wallace
A wardrobe is only as limited as the owner's imagination; it really is about what you do with what you have. Shirt dresses are particularly accommodating to transformation and remixes; they are the grown up female equivalent of transforming toys for little boys. The colors and print in this dress made it wearable with a large range of palettes: from reds, to blues, and lots of neutrals in between. There aren't really rules or tips for stretching one dress into multiple outfits, but what I tend to look for are statement accessories and silhouette. Layering pieces on top (pencil skirts) or a petticoat underneath, really makes a dress look entirely different. Just as easy is throwing on a different belt or a vest, since a bow belt has an entirely different "vibe" than a denim vest there's sort of a mood or style to each accessory you can build around. The ultimate transforming item: safety pins, they temporarily shorten a hem in a matter of seconds.

I like this post, a lot, primarily because I agree with you 100%! You just proved that you can do so much with one item depending on how you mix it. ;)
ReplyDeletelove the looks!! it's true- if you really work with what u got in your closet- you can wear one piece a million ways!
ReplyDeletethanks for the inspiration!!
love the first look!!!
I love all these looks! Thanks for giving me some great ideas to mix it up!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite is when you you wear it with the yellow pencil skirt!
ReplyDeletelove all the looks!
ReplyDeleteso adorable!

That dress is so cute, where did it come from? I love your diy tights - the design and color are really great.
ReplyDeleteEach one is beautiful, but my favorite is the last one. :)
ReplyDeleteYour We Love Colors tights are so pretty!
you and plain jayne have made it my number one mission to find a mustard pencil skirt!
ReplyDeletei love your remixes, they're always so inspiring. my favorite look from these has to be the first, though. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou did a perfect demonstration on how easy it is to use one item to create many looks. And I love all those looks!
ReplyDeleteI agree with u, there are hundreds of ways to wear one item and I really like that dress! I should def get another shirt dress, they're great both winter and summer!! I also like re-discovering an old item in my closet and finding it goes great with that new cardigan i just bought or that i could wear it in a different way from before!
ReplyDeleteI own that dress and love it to death but have been trying to find new ways to wear it! Thanks soo much for the inspiration!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I've been waiting for another one of your remix posts :) Fabulous how different each of these looks are, so inspiring to really just dig into your own closet for new outfits. I think the last one is my favorite :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Love them all. The pencil skirt is to die for. Is it leather?
ReplyDeleteWOW, that is amazing! You've really inspired me to look into my closet tonight instead of going shopping (which I was planning on doing...)
ReplyDeletethis is awesome! i hope you do more remixes- i'm not good at this at all (i keep wearing the same thing over and over in the same way). so i love seeing all your looks with this dress in one place. i love how the tights and shoes in particular totally change the look of the dress. ~joelle

I like your remixes. This is something I really tryout this year.
ReplyDeletei enjoy your remix posts. you really take it above and beyond what anyone else is doing. these are all wonderful, and my faves are #1,3,5,6. amazing how you can tuck an entire dress underneath a skirt. i've tried to mimic this technique but i always end up looking frumpy.
ReplyDeleteI'm so in love with this post so much, this was a great idea and I love every single outfit!! so wonderful

i really like the possibility of pairing the dress with a slim fitting skirt. does the wider, a-line cut of the dress ever feel bunchy underneath the slimmer pencil-cut skirt? i have a dress that i want to layer under one of my slimmer skirts but it opens up much wider.
ReplyDeleteSuch great outfits with one great dress! I really love that yellow skirt.
ReplyDeleteReally cool stuff going on! Really creative.
ReplyDeleteYAY! a new remix. These are definitely my favourite of your posts...
ReplyDeleteloooving all the versatility here! thats one great dress!
ReplyDeleteYour remix posts are always such great work. I LOVE that yellow pencil skirt - my problem is I never get the dress underneath to be flat enough without it looking odd with a pencil skirt over it!
ReplyDeleteyou're so right, a dress is only as limited as you make it
ReplyDeletelove the last look, the tights are fab
all the combinations are great. your first and fifth outfits are my favorite though. now i have the urge to go and play around in my closet!
ReplyDeleteIt's really great to see all the different things you can do with one primary piece of clothing. I need to get more creative with my own closet, especially since I'm on a shopping ban!

wow! this post is quite inspiring. i really like all the looks :)
ReplyDeleteYay! A new remix. I love when you post these. It really inspires me to try a little harder with what I have instead of just falling back on my typical "uniform."
ReplyDeleteI love every outfit in this post.
This post is AWESOME! You should be a professional remixer. Did you put the swirls on those purple tights? If so, how? They're lovely!
ReplyDelete"A wardrobe is only as limited as the owner's imagination", I love this quote, it's really true! I must say one of my favorite posts of yours are the remixes, truly inspiring.

I LOVE the versatility!!! Amazing.. all looks are absolutely amazing.. my fav though would have to be look #ONE.

Such great looks, all of them. I adore the little motion shot, too! I think I love the straight up dress the most, though, but that yellow skirt is so eye-catching...
ReplyDeletexx
I love all of these looks, but the dancing pic is adorable! :D
ReplyDeleteIt's really great to see someone who gets the most usage out of her wardrobe. That's one of the reasons I love your blog!
this looks great! officially following you!
ReplyDeleteHow great to see all those different outfits with the same piece! Love them all!
ReplyDeleteLove your hair in the first picture!
I love this post! You are so right, and I think you've done an especially brilliant job remixing that dress!! I love your remixes, I always sit here amazed at your creativity!

Your remixes are so inspirational! I have been in such a fashion funk all winter, it is nice getting some ideas on how to play around with accessories and jazz things up a bit. And um... that yellow pencil skirt... AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteI love your remix posts!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if one day you could do a post showing how you made your diy bow belt. It's really cool and I'm sure lots of people would love to learn. :)
Wow girl! You are the One! I love all of these outfits! Great!
ReplyDeletePeace and love!
wonderful combinations!!!

I always love your remixes! They're so inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI'm always knocked sideways by your amazing remixes. I love the colour pop accessories you've used to pull out different shades in the same dress. So clever.
ReplyDeleteI love all these outfits, but my favorite has got to be the one with the yellow leather pencil skirt! Absolute super duper awesomeness!!
ReplyDeleteall great... love the last look.. super sweet in braids and has a modish look which i am a sucker for :)

I love the idea of this post! There's so many ways you can mix this dress up.
ReplyDeletei think these are my favorite types of posts. i've been trying to learn the art of the remix, and these posts certainly provide a lot of inspiration!
ReplyDeletethat dress is adorable and the colors on it are wonderful. I really love those diy tights btw.
ReplyDeleterandom question: how did you change the background image? I've been trying to figure it out for days.

Great job! I often have a brain freeze when I try to put together an outfit out of my wardrobe that I never have and some times it can get discouraging. Hopefully I'll be able to continue over these bumps in the future.
ReplyDeletelove that dress! is it from h&m? I feel like I saw a similar one there in the states and wanted it, but it's not in our h&m here yet...
ReplyDeleteanyways, I like the first and second-to-last outfits the best. :o)
I totally love your DIYs. The belt, the tights.. And this remix is as good as all the other ones!
ReplyDeletethat dress is completely beautiful - i love the second-to-last picture; the different shades of purple are so great!
ReplyDeleteIt's really nice and different, my favorite is the third photo, and the one with the violet tights!
ReplyDeleteKisses from Paris ;)

ReplyDeleteThose DIY tights are so pretty! Please tell us how!
ReplyDeleteoooooooh you haven't done a remix in a while, this is a particularly cool one. love this dress, where is it from? (sorry if you already said, I looked through the post but couldn't tell, maybe am too tired lol) really really wanna know how you made the velvet bow, if you ever feel like sharing :D xxxx
ReplyDeleteThe first outfit and the last three are my favourites, but they're all stunning! It blows my mind that you can mix things up so uniquely.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great, great post! Every outfit is unique and lovely.
ReplyDeleteoh wow, I think I'm in loving this post!
ReplyDelete"a wardrobe is only as limited as the owners's imagination,"
Can a qoute you? I'm possibly going to say that 7 times a day...
Amazing all the ways you wear the dress! I have never tried wearing a dress as a top tucked into a skirt! I must try that soon!
ReplyDeleteI love these posts, number 5 is my favourite
ReplyDeleteI can not believe how unique and lovely each of these outfits are! You really know how to work it Rebecca :)
ReplyDeleteI love your remixes of that one dress. I actually pulled every article of clothing I own out of my closet last weekend and spent a few hours combining them in new ways. I came up with a few successful new outfits, and felt better about expanding my wardrobe without going out and buying a new outfit.
ReplyDeletelove these remixes =) this shirt dress goes well w/ so many colors
ReplyDeleteI love the remixes with the skirts! No one would know! haha anyways, I also love the one with the green belt!
ReplyDeleteI love the dress, and how it can look complety different with the right accesories. The tights are just great!.
ReplyDelete1 and 4 are my favorites, but i love all the combinations!
ReplyDeleteHope you'll check out my blog!

I LOVE when you show all the different ways to wear one piece. I need to start doing that on my blog, or maybe even not on any blog but just for my own sanity in the morning! CUTE dress by the way and I love the puffy black skirt as well!
ReplyDeleteGreat style these outfits are all super cute & creative.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my blog! :-)

Love this! I completely agree and way to back it up girl.
ReplyDeleteAlso love your hair, I wish I could braid mine.
Im so glad to see one of your remix posts!
ReplyDeleteI find sometimes after wearing clothing a certain way it becomes much harder to think of more imaginative ways to put them into an outifit! but you do it amazingly
Love how you use that dress !
ReplyDeleteI love how you remix, but I find it so uncomfortable to wear a pencil skirt on top of a shirt dress, especially one with a rather big skirt like the one you're wearing. do you do something with the skirt part, or do you just stuff it in?
ReplyDeletechitchat44@hotmail.com
I love when you do these remix posts. This one is especially fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI love every one of these remixes! Gorgeous! By any chance, maybe I skipped over it, who is the dress by? It is beautiful!
ReplyDeletewww.thestylerider.blogspot.com
You truly are one of my inspirations when remixing clothes. You have such a great way of reinventing one piece! Great post.
ReplyDeleteingenius! i kept staring at the photos and am still dumbfounded by how you transformed that dress with the yellow pencil skirt...whoa! :D
ReplyDeletegizellefaye.blogspot.com
A great dress remix post is just what I needed to see as I've been on a jeans/tshirt/cardigan kick for quite a while now ;) I was eying this adorable dress the last time I was in H&M. I may have to pick it up next time I'm there if it's still hanging around.
ReplyDeleteLoving the outfit remix!! Thanks for the awesome post! :)
ReplyDeleteLove it as a blouse with a mustard skirt the most! it looks brilliant. Great remix!
ReplyDeleteWOW im loving that bow belt!!! and the mustard leather skirt. Thanks for sharing your mixes. I have been trying to limit my spending and focus on what I already have (which is entirely TOO MUCH) and this gives me great ideas...thanks!!

I get in the habit of wearing something the same way, so this kind of post inspires me to break out of that rut.
ReplyDeleteEach outfit has its own special appeal...it would be impossible for me to pick a favorite!
I love the way you've remade this look! So lovely.
ReplyDeletehttp://peaceloveheartfly.blogspot.com/
You seriously have the most amazing talent for wearing one item so many gorgeous ways.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I'm wearing the same sandals and light grey socks in my post tomorrow. Although mine are otk. What is it about those sandals and grey socks that work so well?
XOXO
Lulu Letty
You are a master at remixing, it's so important for saving money and stretching a wardrobe! thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteEach outfit has a completely different feel and personality to it! Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI love these posts, taking one item and reworking it in so many ways. You are always such an inspiration -- reading this blog, seeing your creativity and resourcefulness, I never have a reason to whine that I have *nothing* to wear. I just need to take a step back, think a moment, and be inspired.
ReplyDeleteThose blue/green tights are simply wonderful. This is a very inspiring post, and I bet it was fun to create!
ReplyDeleteWow what a great post and so true. That dress is gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteGreat remixes. I'm inspired!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your use of colors. Good stuff.

This is a beautiful dress and so many different ways to wear it. I particularly like it how you styled in with the yellow skirt. I have been trying to become more inventive with my own wardrobe and I've tried wearing a couple of dresses as tops too.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your remixes! Am always amazed when you manage to wear a dress under a skirt (especially when the skirt appears fairly full like this one)
ReplyDeleteIf I were to try that I would look like a stuffed snowman! :)
xx
I really like these socks and tights !
ReplyDeleteThese all look so amazing! I love them all.
ReplyDeletewow, so versatile! I'm impressed :)
ReplyDeleteThese are always my favourite posts of yours!
ReplyDeleteI'm inspired to start playing with my dresses and put on a lounge room fashion parade!
Such a great remix once again!
ReplyDeleteI really love lvoe that one dress can be worn in so so many ways:)
I love love how wearing a petticoat underneath a dress can make a the difference.
Woooo and you did the braid over your hair,so beautiful.
The first 3 looks are my fave!
wow what a great remix! love the second last one the most. the tights are such a lovely colour.
ReplyDeleteAlways loving your remixes! I love the first and third one most, but they're all lovely~
ReplyDeleteThe last three are my favorites.
ReplyDelete1. What a nice pop of color with the yellow beanie and I love the simple, boyish vibe that the sweater emits.
2. The purple tights really ground this outfit and go so so well with the colors of your dress.
3. Unbelievably perfect! Love how you made the ensemble's length shorter with the mini skirt. Also, your braided hair is completely adorable. You look wonderful in all these remixes!
Ooooh I have that dress, too! Thanks for the remixes :)
ReplyDeleteAll of the looks are amazing, but my favourite is the one with the purple tights :)
ReplyDeleteLove this kind of posts ! You have brilliant ideas !
ReplyDeleteBut doesn't it takes a lot of time to change,do the photos, edit and stuff? How much time do you spend for this kind of posts?
Answer me in a comment on my blog if you can !
Big hug !
Wow, I almost missed boogying Rebecca. I thought it was a trick of the eye. But you do move fabulously! xx
ReplyDeletei think i like the first or second looks best. really like how you show what different looks can be made with just a few accessories, i must start experimenting more with my wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteThis has to be one of your more epic remixes. My favourite part is the blue tights with the squiggle. They have a pair like that on Modcloth that I've been eying forever. But really I love all of this. So creative.
ReplyDeleteI always love your remix posts
ReplyDeletei love the yellow skirt.
ReplyDeletexxx
love your looks! :) pretty.
ReplyDeleteAwhh this is adorable! I really need to learn how to transform my clothes! you really make it worth it for this dress! :)

ReplyDeleteFantastic re-mix post! I love how you prove that our closets have endless possibilities if we will only get a little creative.
ReplyDeletecan't get any better than this! you've done it now! fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThese are all so great! I could definietly use a lesson in re-mixing a dress, I have so many and keep buying more! Love that last ensemble especially. And just how many pairs of tights do you own lady?! ;)
ReplyDeletei love the firts look!

I simply love your remixes! You're just so creative with the mix and match thing. :D
ReplyDeleteBig fan! *Thumbs up*

You're amazing at remixing - all of these are wonderful combinations!
ReplyDeleteYou're so clever, seriously, not all people could be that imaginative, i'm impressed. Especially love your second outfit.
ReplyDeleteI've added you to my blogroll, I hope that's okay, if its not just let me know
http:\\newgeneracity.blogspot.com
i love your remix posts.. this is no exception. The dress by itself is lovely but the way you transform it into different looks are even better.
ReplyDeleteI really like seeing all the different ways you wore this dress.
ReplyDeletei love how you do this...just outstanding!!!
ReplyDeleteAs usual, your creativity and versatility never cease to astound me.
ReplyDeleteYou inspired me from your first outfit. Today, I wore a skirt (in a Jeans Month at the office), with stockings and instead of a traditional belt (I usually do black patent to cinch my waist), I tied a silver satin bow around my waist and thought of you immediately.
I should post the photos soon so you can see.

I'm direly behind on reading my favourite blogs... it's been busy at work, and I try not to alert the higher ups that I'm blog reading during work hours. But hopefully I'm close to all caught up on yours! Thank Goodness! I missed out on a lot during the holidays. You always give me such beautiful things to see.
you look so adorable :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I can't decide which outfit I love the most, but I definitely adore your picture with the animation!

I really love the fourth remix you did. You wouldn't think that the yellow skirt would go with so much, but it does!
ReplyDeleteI agree! But each time, the result is 100% you. Your outfits are always so put together! Since it's so rainy here (lightning and thunder, hail, power outage, heavy wind and rain, etc.) it's hard to look put together (and warm)!
ReplyDeleteI love these posts, its always fun to see the way you style one item. The color of the dress itself is wonderful and i like all the incarnations, though I am partial to the first one and the last two (though this may be partially due to those ADORABLE braids)
ReplyDelete-indigo
Love the bow belt in the first photo. The 'shake' in the second photo. The bow tie in the third photo. The yellow skirt in the 4th photo. Yellow hat in the 5th photo. Green belt in the 6th photo and your tights in the 7th photo. Fabulous job on all the accessories with 1 dress!
