High Bun Tutorial

Hair tutorials are hard work for me, since honestly most of the time I don't have a clue what to do with my hair. However, enough people have asked me how I put my hair in a high bun, that I thought I ought to at least attempt to show you. This short and sweet video should be able to guide you in creating your own high bun.

Also, feel free to suggest what you would like to see a video of (ideally something outside so I can get good lighting). I would like to use my little Flip camera more this spring.

  1. I would really love to put my hair in a simple bun like that, but unfortunately my hair is to thick and heavy and would fell off in half an hour.

  2. i have to say that even though i know you irl, it is still so cute/fun to watch you move on your blog! now i sound a little creepy, but you get what i mean...

  3. Wow you have really thick hair! Heh, I've tried this but it just looks really severe; hair's too thin. :\ Good tutorial, though!

  4. @Bear, that's part of the reasons I hate "how tos" it's more of a "how I do" you know, that won't work for everyone. But you can try back-combing your ponytail section for some volume.

  5. ohhh, if i had long hair i'd so be trying to rock that 'do!

  6. Great tutorial, your hair is so lovely and thick! I know that in some places (I'm thinking Asia) you can buy little bun attatchments to make your buns look a little more voluminous!

  7. Cute tute! I do the same with my hair, sadly it doesn't look as gorgeous as yours ;)

  9. I wish I was as cute as you. :)

And I'm bobby pin challenged...maybe you could do a bobby pin tutorial? I can't seem to make buns work with bobby pins...like, I don't know how to "stick them in" to the bun. :D

  10. Hey Rebbecca great video! :)

Maybe you could do one for some tips on taking pics outside? I do well if someone else is taking them, but by myself..not so much. :P

  12. Oh you are so adorable with your little movements and subtle looks at the camera! Haha. I do my bun the same way (:

Hmm how about a video while doing one of your DIY projects? I know you are a talented artist, I bet it would be fun to actually see you create your works. (:

  15. What is the song you used? I love it <3

  16. Oh goodness you make it look so simple and easy! My hair is so thick and uncontrollable, and any attempt to "style" it other than a low ponytail would result in it collapsing within seconds. Hmm, maybe if I cut my hair shorter it will stay better...thanks for the tutorial!

  17. great tutorial! you make it look so easy and beautiful. :) i tried it on myself but too many random pieces of hair fly all over the place so my bun looks like a porcupine. :P thanks for sharing!

  18. The video is fun, edited well and has a great tune in the background. Definitely fun to watch, rather than having people talk and talk and talk and talk and talk....

GREAT tutorial. And you're just so cute.

  19. This is really helpful, unfortunately my hair isn't long enough yet. Great music choice too.

  20. Haha, the music you used for this video is so epic. Makes putting your hair in a bun like a true adventure. You should make another and use Requium for a Dream but call it Requium for a Top Knot.

  21. High buns always looks chic & sophisticated (even when tousled) when there's bangs. You have great bangs!

  22. Aw, you look adorable. Your wrists are very delicate! Is that a weird thing to say?

    Anyway, fun.

  27. So cute! Seeing this is making me miss my long hair though... lol. Maybe I'll have to grow it out again this summer! ;)

  30. I usually stick a pen in my hair to twist it into a bun, but I am definitely trying this! Yours always look so elegant and neat. I hope you are feeling better about your indecision too- I'm going through a bit of that right now myself :( the future is kind of a scary place sometimes, haha. I'm sure you'll make the right choice!

  41. That song is really nice. It reminds me of the soundtrack from Where The Wild Things Are.

That's how I do mine, but they never look as good as that.. (curious) it might be because my hair is like 2.5 times longer than yours and crazy thanks to good old crazy Australian humidity.

You were made for the camera btw. Just putting it out there.

  45. Oh Rebecca! You've got such gorgeous, healthy looking hair. Glad you decided to start tutorials, as I've been combing the web for good ones lately. I'd love to see you do one on wrapping braids 'round your head like a crown, or around the back. It comes out so polished when you do it!
