The Past Is For Inspiration, Not Imitation
Upon reflection, I really enjoyed 2010 and I'm getting quite excited for 2011 which promises to be even more amazing. I do hope to be able to bring you along with me for the ride via this old blog here...although to be honest I'm not quite certain where the ride is headed! At the moment, my future is quite open-ended and I am accepting the uncertainties. For now, please enjoy some of my favorite pictures (and videos) from the past year.

Winter Dream Or Winter Scream?
As you can see there is still some determined snow clinging to the rocks and sand down by the ocean. With strong wind and grey skies sometimes it seems as if winter holds us in a vice-like grip and will never abate...I'm being dramatic, but I'm a warm weather person. It's far too early to be contemplating, but I'm already eagerly envisioning summer nights spent lying in the parade field looking at the stars. Instead, for now I'm watching the snow slowly melt and bundling myself up.

Poor Spectres Of The Perished Summer
The more snow and ice that appears in my area, the more I long for summer. These lovely, idyllic photographs are certainly not helping my to accept my current situation. Flowing dresses, floral crowns, and vintage bicycles? Yes, please.

So Comes Snow After Fire
I always forget how bright things can get in the winter; especially when the ground is covered in a blanket of pure snow. Wearing my glasses instead of sunglasses was not a well thought-out plan, but somedays I just can't be bothered with contacts. I actually need to start purchasing more eyeglasses so I can change them as frequently as I change my shoes...or so I can at least have more than one pair!

The Blue Bird
I recently stumbled across these film stills from The Blue Bird, a classic 1918 silent film and it jogged hazy (even trippy) memories of the movie. Those memories prompted a re-watching and the silent film was just as wonderful and slightly hallucinagentic as remembered.
The story follows two peasant children, brother and sister, who set out on a quest to find the legendary blue bird that will bring happiness, power, and knowledge to humanity. The children make several stops on their journey, such as the Land of Memory and the Palace of Happiness. As with most journeys, the children learn and see so much along the way that the destination and achievement of their goal pale in comparison.
Visually, the aged film and color-tinting are absolutely stunning and add to the overall dreamy quality of the movie. The movie is heavy with allegory and classic romanticism with curly-haired nymphs dancing through rose-tinted fields. After viewing this so many other childhood classics pale in comparison...
