I wonder if threatening to run away to the circus is still a threat children give to their parents or if it's becoming less and less of a thing…Anyway, despite the few circuses I witnessed as a child there was still a certain magic surrounding them and the glamour of the women in their sequins and frills was captured enough in films to tempt me into becoming a runaway. Recently I stumbled across these beautiful vintage photographs of circus girls taken from the 1940s and 50s and my appreciation for their costumes was reignited. via
