Outfit: Movie Night at the Strand

I'm always going on about my love of old movies, but did I ever mention I love old movie theaters too? An old theater with classic red velvet curtains and old-fashioned marquee out front sort of begs for you to dress up and bring some of the ceremony back to a movie night. One of my favorite vintage photographs is from the first 3-D movie; the men are wearing suits and ties, the women look like movie stars with their perfectly coiffed hair. Naturally I do go to the movies in jeans sometimes, but whenever I do take the time to put together a special going-out outfit there's so much added ceremony and fun to the night (and what could be more fitting than a popcorn purse and ticket print dress?). And there's a theater in Belfast that ticks all of the boxes for the perfect night--down to old Hollywood themed popcorn bags and carpet--the Strand Arts Centre. First opened in 1935 it is the oldest cinema in Northern Ireland and shows a mix of current films and classics (I'm keen to book tickets for the Princess Bride screening in April). Its distinctive Art Deco designs make it hard to resist snapping a few pictures on your way in. Once inside, settle back in your plush red seat and let the movies take you away for a couple of hours until it is time to emerge, a little dazed to trip past the glowing neon lights...
